GREN candidacy

[edit]

Hi there! Unfortunately, your GREN candidacy has been closed as unsuccessful by a very slight margin (~78% support, below minimum 80%). Don't let this discourage you; If you didn't start the Meta RfA, the global rename candidacy would have succeeded. Trust me, if you wait for several months, you will eventually succeed. Hope all the best with your Wiktionary adminship! ToadetteEdit (talk) 16:07, 28 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks a lot for the positive comment! I really appreciate your faith and trust. :) Svārtava (tɕ) 16:50, 28 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations, dear administrator!

[edit]
Congratulations, Svartava! You now have administrator rights on Meta-Wiki. Please take a moment to read the adminstrators' policy again and to add to your watchlist several related pages (in particular: Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat and Meta:Requests for deletion) before launching yourself into administrator duties. Please keep an eye on the index of policies and guidelines and the local discussion forum too. Please note that while most actions done with administrator tools can be reversed by other administrators, some such as history merges or imports are not, or can only be undone in full or in part after a great amount of work, therefore you shall be extra careful when performing these type of actions. If you use IRC feel free to join the #wikimedia-metaconnect channel. You may also find our administrators' handbook useful for your day to day. Please check or add your entry to the list of administrators as well. Administrators are also allowed to subscribe to the metawiki-admins private mailing list. Subscription instructions can be found in the mailing list main page. Feel free to ask me any other administrator if you ever have any doubts or questions about the tools. Sincerely,M/ (talk) 18:26, 8 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Yuliia Ihnatova

[edit]

I would like to return the page and try to edit it. What can I change or improve to publish a page in Wiki? Sn eg (talk) 20:51, 16 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

The subject / topic of the page you created Yuliia Ihnatova does not meet Meta's inclusion policy and should not be re-added; see also Meta:What Meta is not. At best, if the subject of the article is notable enough and meets the criteria of inclusion for Wikipedia, it could be added there. Svārtava (tɕ) 05:08, 17 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Can I try to create an page again, taking into account authoritative sources? How can I give the page for review before publication? Sn eg (talk) 19:13, 17 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
No, the topic is still out of scope for Meta. As I said, if you have enough sources then this could be added on Wikipedia, for which see w:WP:AFC. Svārtava (tɕ) 19:29, 17 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

SWWP Vandal

[edit]

Howdy?

I've noticed your efforts in preventing vandalism on Kiswahili Wikipedia. I request that you take even stricter measures against this issue. They're playing with us too much.

Those involved in that unhealthy debate should also face strong consequences. It has been quite troublesome lately on SWWP. User:Muddyb (Talk) 19:29, 19 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Muddyb: Hi, I was indeed doing some anti-vandalism on Swahili Wikipedia yesterday, but I am not too familiar with the situation. Since you are an admin there you are able to carry out all simple antivandalism steps there by yourself, so in that case if you need any further help such as check-user then you might be looking for SRCU, but feel free to reach out if there is anything I can do. – Svārtava (tɕ) 11:54, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Clearly we need our very own checkuser. I have a candidate whose willing to take the step. A guy named @Gayle157 he's been doing great job fighting these kind and the likes of vandals. Howo do we get one? User:Muddyb (Talk) 13:45, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Muddyb: See CheckUser_policy#Appointing_local_CheckUsers for information about appointing local checkusers. I will add that generally checkusers are selected from users who currently have existing administrator rights on the wiki. – Svārtava (tɕ) 14:39, 20 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Svartava Ah, okay. I went on and viewed the whole procedure. It looks a bit hard for our Wikipedia. The criterion of 30 editors to vote for two check users is difficult. We don't have that number, unless there's an exception for a certain case. Furthermore, the candidate I said was a 'go' for the job is not an administrator, but rather a hardworking contributor. On the admin side, it's not a big deal, but 30 editors for a vote? I don't think we can make it. User:Muddyb (Talk) 16:42, 22 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Muddyb: In that case, you can take help from stewards using SRCU since they would be able to carry out checkuser investigation; alternatively you can discuss the issue with them on Stewards' noticeboard.
Regarding the candidate, checkuser is a very sensitive permission for which it is unusual to be granted to a relatively new user without administrator permission (since they have been editing since January). Additionally, it seems they are also blocked on another project for sockpuppet abuse, which is also a red flag given the other things. – Svārtava (tɕ) 11:18, 23 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Svartava In that case, I'll take charge of managing check-user access. I'll follow the direction you've suggested and reach out if I need anything User:Muddyb (Talk) 12:53, 23 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Information updated

Hi

Do you think I can have my patroller rights back. I now do not translate pages with machine translation anymore any also is more active in reverting vandalism. Rollback would help me out greatly. Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:21, 10 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

I think it is too soon for it right now given quite the recent issues; additionally I just noticed an incorrect revert by you at simple.wikt, so my doubts remain. – Svārtava (tɕ) 14:15, 10 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi

[edit]

How do you revert translations like this. Without blanking. Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:11, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Cactusisme: Assuming you are talking about [1], such edits are usually reverted by deleting the corresponding Translations: unit subpage. – Svārtava (tɕ) 09:29, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
so how do normal user revert it? Cactus🌵 spiky ouch 09:30, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Cactusisme: Non-admins just mark them for speedy deletion to bring it to attention of admins who do the deletion. – Svārtava (tɕ) 09:30, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Help

[edit]

Hi, Svartava, thanks! I need a general list of the AZWUG members for massmessage. But I don't create the Special:CreateMassMessageList. Is it possible to give me translation administrator rights for a few hours to create this list? Or if possible, can you create it yourself? Turkmen talk 08:28, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Turkmen! I'd like to help you out, but I'm not a bureaucrat so it's not possible for me to grant you translation adminship. However, I could create the list myself if you could guide me on how to do it as I'm not too familiar with this. – Svārtava (tɕ) 08:47, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Turkmen Please specify title of the page which will be used as MMS list. – Phương Linh (T · C · CA · L · B) 08:56, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Hide on Rosé and Svartava thanks for your attention! You would go to "Special:CreateMassMessageList" and add this title: "AZWUG/MassMessage" and this description: "List of members of the Azerbaijan Wikimedia users group for MassMessage". Then you would add the users here. In this way: "User talk:Turkmen". Turkmen talk 09:06, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Turkmen I have created the list at AZWUG/MassMessage, but I didn't add users to that list, since I see a blocked user there. You can add them yourself. – Phương Linh (T · C · CA · L · B) 09:09, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Done, thanks! Turkmen talk 09:27, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Because of your extensive hard work...

[edit]

I want you to apply for stewardship when the next election arises. You fight cross-wiki vandalism extensively, and you even are an administrator on Meta. I'm seeing SRGL frequently overloaded with requests, including at times a handful from me. In contrast, I have only one-fifth of the experience needed for Meta sysop. So, apply for stewardship when the next opportunity arises! ;) Faster than Thunder (talk) 01:29, 18 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Get started with the Lua interface to simplify the preparation of modules for translation in MetaWiki

[edit]

Greetings!

The Language and Product Localization team has developed a Lua interface to simplify the preparation of Lua modules for translation in the MetaWiki platform. This means that module developers can now use the new Lua interface to load translatable strings, and the translators can translate them in the same translation interface that is used for templates and wiki pages.

This improvement makes it easier for translators to find and edit module strings without dealing with raw Lua code. It helps prevent mistakes that could break the module during translation.

We invite you to watch our demo video and read more about translatable modules to understand how it works. Please give us your feedback on this talk page on how well the Lua interface addresses the challenges in your workflow and how useful it is in module localization tasks. You can also refer to Module:User Wikimedia project, which was recently converted to utilize these messages, for example usage.

Your feedback is important as it will help us evaluate and decide how to continue developing and improving this interface, extend it to other wikis, or change our approach.

Thank you, and we anticipate your honest feedback.

Username Change Request (EgePro31 to Super Cat) - On Hold by you until 29 July 2025

[edit]

@Svartava, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you regarding my username change request from EgePro31 to Super Cat, which you kindly placed "on hold until 29 July 2025." As of today, July 29, 2025, the "on hold" period has concluded. However, I've noticed that my username has not yet been changed, and the request status has not been updated to "completed" or "archived." The reason for my original request remains: my current username "EgePro31" is problematic as it contains potentially offensive connotations and may reveal personal identifying information. And i am a cat lover and would like my new username to reflect this passion. The name 'Super Cat' better represents my love for cats and offers a more fun and personal expression compared to 'EgePro31,' which has a more 'gamer' connotation. I am eager to have it changed to "Super Cat" as soon as possible. Could you please look into the status of my request and advise on why it has not been processed yet, now that the hold period has ended? Thank you for your time and assistance. Sincerely, Çınar Ege (current username: EgePro31) EgePro31 (talk) 04:24, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi again

Hi, I was just wondering if you think I can get my patroller permission back? Plutus 💬 🎃 Fortune favors the curious 12:03, 8 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Plutus: I'm not sure, but feel free to make a new request at RFH where it could be assessed by any other admins as well. I still see you making careless edits such as the inconsistency at Feminism_and_Folklore/ml where in some lines "Feminism and Folklore" has been kept as it is in English while in others it is translated into Malayalam. Are you still using machine translation? – Svārtava (tɕ) 10:11, 11 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I didn't have time finishing translating the entire page yet. No, I don't use machine translation as I am a native speaker of Malayalam. Plutus 💬 🎃 Fortune favors the curious 10:13, 11 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
