Event checklist[edit]

IDENTIFY A TEAM. It is easier to organise an event as a team of 2-5 people than all alone. Each organiser skills add up, it is more fun, and during the event, it is clearly easier to deal with everyone needs and requests.

FIND A VENUE. We encourage you to use a free, public space for your event. A WLW event is a perfect program for libraries, museums, universities, community led co-working spaces, or simply a partnering NGO. Look into local public institutions and ask if they would be interested in partnering with you or adding the Edit-a-thon to their list of programs for the year.

SECURE THE DATE AND TIME Consider your audience: schools often choose a weekday like Friday. NGOs may prefer a week-end. Identify the best day and the time. We recommand at least 3 hours. It is often a good idea to include a time slot for a shared meal.

CREATE YOUR WIKIPEDIA USERNAME AND PASSWORD Don’t have an account on Wikipedia? Create a username and password using this link.

REGISTER YOUR EVENT ON THE DASHBOARD The Dashboard is a tool we use to track edits to articles during edit-a-thons. We also made this step by step guide that shows you how to use it. You’ll need your Wikipedia username and password that you just created to sign-in to the Dashboard.
