The following discussion is closed: Closed. Inactive since August 2006
I propose to close this discussion in seven days from now, on May 11 — VasilievVV 19:58, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
The only activity on the Pali Bhasa wiktionary is the index.php spambot. Only one real user active with 4 edits within one year. Ahoerstemeier 20:00, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Support closure, little content and activity. Majorly (talk) 12:06, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Support closure: just 3 old, small articles (wikt:pi:Special:Allpages) and no useful activity besides de-spamming (wikt:pi:Special:Recentchanges).I left a message for the contributor at his main user page, new:छ्येलेमि खँलाबँला:Eukesh -- he may have some opinions on this too. --A. B. (talk) 15:23, 8 August 2007 (UTC)- Oppose closure per Eukesh and revisit in a few months. --A. B. (talk) 19:10, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- VERY STRONG OPPOSITION First of all, thanks for letting me know about this discussion. We can check the spambots by using the code that the Kazakh wikipedia has been using which does not allow anonymous users to edit without making a preview. For that, an admin or steward needs to make a change in monobook.js. Pali is a very rich language. Also, there are loads of free open source dictionaries, books etc in Pali (just try a simple search in Google). The problem at the moment is that Pali in Latin script is incomprehensible to most of the experts. Also, there is no universally accepted Pali spellings in Latin. The language is written in Devnagari, Singhale, Lao, Thai, Burmese etc scripts and there is no central script which is universally used. I have been trying to solve this problem in wikipedia as well as in other projects by developing a transliterator of these scripts and enabling those scripts separately just like it is done in Chinese or kazakh wikipedia. Also, the bugzilla guys need to create a separate "column" so that people can edit in the script that they like. Users from Thai and Singhale wikipedia can contribute in Pali wiktionary and wikipedia once this script thing is solved ( I have known a few editors who say that they cant edit in Devnagari or latin but can contribute in Pali). I am busy with other projects so, I havent been able to contribute much myself. Once I complete a few of my projects elsewhere, I will contribute in Pali wiktionary. Hence, I request to keep the project. Thank you.--Eukesh 15:46, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- I can contribute if the script is Devanagari. And I think that the transliterator as described above would be essential. Is there any update on that? --- Sudarshanhs (talk) 05:07, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Sudarshanhs, you're welcome to add Pali words to the English Wiktionary!! We could use more Pali contributors.
