The original proposer, User:Spl908455, is a person interested in the culture of Wilamowice, is also helpful on the Silesian Wikipedia. He didn't write anything in the request, so I think I should do that. Wymysorys (Wilamowicean, Vilamovian) is a dying language of Germanic origin, spoken in the town of Wilamowice, in the region of Silesian, in Poland. Although the number of native speakers is estimated on 70 by Tymoteusz Król (a person who is the main coordinator of reviving the language), there is a vast number of people interested in learning this language or reviving it. It is a living language widely spoken among the elderly. However between 2004 and 2006 there was a project of learning the language among the primary school pupils. The Wikipedia would be a great way of showing the language to the world and preventing it from death. There is also numerous published sources in Wymysorys - poetry, texts about Wilamowice culture etc. Timpul 11:34, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

ATTENTION: The main coordinator of saving the Vilamovian language, Tymoteusz Król, has joined the project. At the moment he's editing as an IP, but I will teach him how to deal with Wikipedia. So the community is in the process of forming :) Timpul 13:49, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Arguments in favour

  • Support After reconsidering it is a very good chance to revive the dying language, there is an internet community of people who speak Vilamovian, I am also willing to help. A lot of people are interested in learning this language, there writing of Wymysorys-handbook is in progress (will be probably published this year). The language is popular among the Polish people interested in linguistics, it is easy to learn for the Germanic languages speakers. I think we should give it a chance, do not take it into consideration until the idea isn't popular. Thanks. Timpul 11:23, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Support A chance should be offered. Let's say that when it's December I'm going to lose all my hopes on this one... --OosWesThoesBes 04:54, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Does this mean you are pro? Timpul 19:24, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
Mainly. I put it at arguments against because there were no proposers/interested people at that time. Now I'm fully supportive. --OosWesThoesBes 07:49, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Support Each living language should have a chance, and I see the test project in Incubator is active. Lajsikonik 13:40, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Living language, internet community. BartekChom 11:13, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Support Living language, at least should be given a chance even though the number of users might be a little low --eyoung 13:57, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Support Since it is actively used in minority schools and a few articles appear occasionally in newspapers and magazines. 115.113.97.139 09:19, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
  • Supportliving language, enough speakers--Biŋhai 12:03, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Support every language that exists and still has a chance to start living full life, or even a language that has died but has a community that wants to rescucitate it. 89.167.47.60 14:49, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Arguments against

  • Oppose According to the Wikipedia article there are 70 mostly elderly people who speak this language. There is nobody who signed his name on the request. What does this language offer that makes this request to be considered ? Thanks, GerardM 13:32, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose only 70 speakers can' t make a great project --Ilaria - scrivimi 06:50, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Ridiculous. Timpul 10:01, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
  • Oppose the creation of this project because 70 speakers is not enough to generate enough interest in the project to sustain itself. It will most likely implode on itself a few weeks-years after it is created. I also concur with GerardM, what makes this language special? Razorflame 16:15, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
  • 70 isn't a number for a project to be made. No reason to create this. Pmlineditor  16:16, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Other discussion

  • Wilamowice is a town, not a village. Since 1818. But it is only a formal status - the population (around 3000) is lesser than in some villages nearby. Lajsikonik 18:46, 20 September 2008 (UTC)
  • fyi this language is now supported in OmegaWiki. GerardM 14:58, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
  • Why Latgalian[1] has been rejected then? I think Wikipedia in a language with tens of thousands speakers should be created befor this one with only 70 speakers.--Nxx 15:19, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Localisation update

There is no effort noticable on Betawiki to translate the most used messages.. This is a requirement. GerardM 07:30, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

  • Currently 0.00% of the most used MediaWiki messages have been localised. Localisation of these messages is a requirement before your request is finally assessed. This is the recent localisation activity for your language. Thanks, GerardM 13:41, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Small is beautiful

Ich hoffe, dass die Willmesauer Wikipedia bald eingerichtet wird. Vielleicht lässt sich die Sprache so erhalten.--84.141.252.51 18:26, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
