OTRS first caught my eye back when I was a (rather foolish) newbie, and I first posted my request here long before I was an Administrator. However, I believe that I am now fully prepared to take on this rather strenuous role: I've recently come into a lot of time, and I'm willing to lend a hand to Wikimedia. If approved, please note that ''I only wish to start helping out with permissions''; I'll only proceed after my experience with OTRS has surpassed a fair few months.

Volunteer Response Team

For prospective volunteers

OTRS volunteers are always welcome, but OTRS is a very selective process. Considering the nature of the work, the OTRS administrators must be familiar with you and your work on Wikimedia projects before accepting you as a volunteer. It may take some time before your request is replied to, please be patient.

Before volunteering, please read OTRS/Info-en recruiting and make sure that the following statements accurately describe you:

  • you're willing to work on difficult, sensitive, and at times hostile messages;
  • you're courteous, skilled at resolving disputes, friendly even in the face of hostility, sensitive to the needs of those outside Wikipedia, and have extraordinary discretion;
  • and you're willing to provide identification to the Wikimedia Foundation (per the Access to nonpublic data policy).

If so, make a new section like below and append it to this page.

I'd like to help out on OTRS because . ~~~~

Please also send an email to volunteers HYPHEN otrs SNAIL wikimedia D0T org linking to your application on this page. Thanks.

  • Email sent: Yes

I'd like to help out on OTRS because I know that the queues etc are not going to go down by themselves, and I believe that OTRS is an important process for Wikimedia. I have good skills at dealing with people who are upset or confused, which I do a lot on enwiki. I can provide proof of identity (somehow) to the foundation if required. I would like to note I am not over the age of 18, however I have asked regarding this and apparentally it is not a requirement. TheFearow 06:22, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am interested in volunteering for OTRS because I could be of great help with the permissions queue. I am an admin who works w:Wikipedia:Copyright problems quite extensively; I frequently run into articles where editors have claimed to have sent the requisite permissions email. It would be nifty to be able to kill two birds with one stone - I could verify on the spot and clear the issue. I am over 18 and willing to verify my identity. I've been an admin on en.wiki for several months now, and I am interested in volunteering to help the Foundation further by helping out on OTRS. Much of my administrative work has been in page protection and handling unblock requests, which has given me a great deal of experience in dealing with users in these circumstances and handling disputes that often arise from them. I also have three years of experience in food service, which has given me a great deal of experience in customer service and dealing with the public with courtesy and sympathy.

I'm over 18, and will gladly reveal my identification upon request. Krimpet 07:53, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to help out on OTRS because I've been involved with helping build and maintain the Wikipedia community since 2001; I was an original member of the Arbitration Committee, appointed by Jimmy Wales, and continue editing, performing admin duties, and monitor (and help when I can) unblock-en-l, and would like to continue doing so. 13:52, 10 July 2007 (UTC)~ The Cunctator

I would like to help out on OTRS because I wish to help the WMF. I have a good deal of off-wiki and on-wiki experience dealing with other people, and I have always remained civil and courteous to other users, regardless of whatever issues there may be in their dialogue with me. I have been an administrator on the English Wikipedia since September 2006, and a Meta administrator since February 2007. I'm a regular on IRC, and I used to subscribe to the unblock-en-I mailing list (I stopped because I started to have e-mail issues). If unblock-en-I is moved to OTRS, then I can surely be of assistance there. Nishkid64 (talk) 18:45, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd like to help out on OTRS because I feel it has become increasingly important to the project to have such an avenue of recourse. I've heard rumors that the queue is growing longer, and believe that I can be trusted to help out with this delicate yet vital area of the project. Please contact me on English Wikipedia, rather than here, to recieve a prompt response to any questions. Savidan 01:45, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Seems we need help as noted on the IRC en.admin channel, so I'm here to offer services. I'm civil, helpful and calm. TKE 04:10, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and of course, I"m willing to provide identification. TKE 04:38, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps it might help if I expand a bit. I've considered OTRS for about six months, but I wanted to gather further experience in dealing with Wikipedia/media related conflicts. Now that I have been an administrator on a Wikimedia project for (nearly) a year, with approaching 4,000 logged sysop actions and yet a slender human resources file, I feel that I am sufficiently ready to deal with Foundation email at the professional level. This is the second time I applied for the OTRS. I know you guys need all the help you could get. I did some OTRS issues with Bastique and several other users in February and early March, but I went inactive until the beginning of this month. I am active again. I have a strong knowledge of policy, and I do understand copyrights perfectly. I deal mainly with deletions in en and with sports and entertainment articles, but I could help in anything that is needed. Thanks Jaranda | wat's sup 03:30, 22 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
