Afrika Baraza

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Afrika Baraza is a virtual platform for African Wikimedians to connect, collaborate and have meaningful conversations.

Background[edit]

The need for regular, intentional and consistent communication among communities in Africa surfaced during the 2022 Wiki Indaba in Kigali, Rwanda, and the need for a structured space to have meaningful conversations. The African Baraza is not intended to override forums hosted by other African affiliates such as the Naija hour (Nigeria UG), South African Chapter Meet ups or Africa Hour by Wiki in Africa but it is to reinforce the work they do by bringing African communities as a whole to have a regional collective meeting to continue with the conversations that are happening during WikiIndaba conference, share out projects, air grievances and network and engage.

Afrika Baraza comes in to fill this void and encourage; A sense of belonging; Collaboration & Problem solving Sensitization and advocacy around global movement events, activities'

Goals/Objectives[edit]

To facilitate and deepen global connection, engagement, collaboration, and community sensitization among communities in the African continent and diaspora.

Coordinating Team[edit]

Afrika Baraza will be coordinated by the Movement Communications Team as part of the team's goal to advance regional movement communications and create a two-way dialogue with under-represented groups in decision-making and will be run in joint collaboration with the Wiki Indaba Steering Committee (WISCOM).

A working group committee to oversee meetings, agendas, and strategies around Afrika Baraza has also been set up.
