Bangla WikiConference 2024, is a pioneering event designed to bring together Bangla-speaking Wikimedians from Bangladesh, India, and around the world. This conference serves as a dynamic platform for sharing ideas, addressing challenges, and exchanging valuable insights, tips, and best practices. Hosted by Wikimedia Bangladesh, the inaugural Bangla WikiConference was held from November 15 to 16, 2024, in Gazipur, Bangladesh.

The event fostered meaningful discussions on the opportunities and obstacles surrounding Bangla Wikipedia and its sister projects. It also highlighted innovative projects, methodologies, and success stories that inspire and strengthen the open knowledge movement. By encouraging collaboration and networking among participants, the conference aimed to empower the Bangla-speaking Wikimedia community to make an even greater impact on the global free knowledge landscape.

Theme

The themes of the conference — Knowledge. Diversity. Collaboration. — underscored the importance of inclusivity and shared responsibility in promoting open knowledge. From technical workshops to strategy discussions, the event covered a wide range of topics, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to contribute meaningfully.

♦ Knowledge: is the basic foundation on which any community, society, or culture is built. For the Wikicommunity, knowledge holds even greater significance because the primary goal of Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects is to make knowledge easily accessible to everyone.

♦ Diversity: is an opportunity for the Bangla-speaking Wikicommunity, where various volunteer groups, individuals and collaborators from different cultures will closely engage and equitably collaborate with each other at various stages of wiki development.

♦ Collaboration: as a formal event, the Bangla WikiConference serves as a means for Bangla-speaking Wikicommunity members to learn from each other and exchange knowledge. Here, discussions and solutions will be focused on various community initiatives, the use of wiki tools, event organization, online campaigns, edit-a-thons, and resolving wiki-related issues.
