There are many arbitrary problems in South Asia like, assault, and killing of innocent people. Freedom of movement between countries is highly restricted. India and Pakistan often deny visas to their citizens. Nepalese women and children are bought and sold into prostitution in Indian brothels. The Nepalese speaking people of Bhutan are compelled to leave Bhutan. The Sinhalese-controlled government of Sri Lanka is struggling to control a separatist movement, led by the Tamil minority resulting in bombing in public areas. The Maldives government restricts religious freedom and the problem of protection of minor children and women is also fast growing. The Bangladeshi government continues to use force to suppress the armed resistance of indigenous people who are seeking to become politically independent. The paper seeks to give an assessment of the South Asian countries that share problems, such as poverty, inequality, unemployment, exploitation of children and women and religious fundamentalism. Human rights organizations, NGOs and creation of forum like South Asian Forum for Human Rights in individual countries are working hard to improve the living situation of their people. The SAARC policies aim to promote welfare economics, collective self-reliance among their countries and to accelerate socio-cultural development in the region.
