- Language learning is something that is conditioned through the environment to a great extent. Internet is one such environment which in the generation of technology has a great impact on language learning. The advent of internet has benefitted the student community the most. With blogs, wikis, forums and social networking sites (SNSs), the new generation of students can express themselves in various ways that are electronically intertwined. These social networking sites or say these social tools redefine the way of language learning. Facebook is one such place as well as a tool where and by which the language learning is redefined. This paper investigates that weather the students were benefitted in learning the L2 i.e. English through the Facebook and weather it enhanced their learning in comparison to those who didn’t used the Facebook through their second language learning phase. This paper also identifies that hoe the second language learners identify their language learning ability especially in terms of writing and vocabulary. It provides insights of enhancement in second language acquisition. In the context of second language acquisition, the sociocultural approach to language learning views students as active learners who become involved in their own learning process by engaging with others through authentic interaction (Lantolf & Thorne, 2006). This study followed the empirical method to support the hypothesis that it states above. There was a group of five students who were enrolled in an institute that taught English as a second language. These students are also a frequent user of Facebook. Another group of students was also there on whom the study was conducted. These students were also enrolled in the same course but were not avid users of Facebook. The aim was to note the positive change in language learning that took place through Facebook in the students who were frequently online of Facebook.
Hypothesis: Language learning becomes easy for the non-English speakers who are acquiring English as their second language.
