Purpose of the Event/Activity

• Wiki Loves Mangalore 2024 is a photography competition to capture Mangalore's beautiful locations, including its natural surroundings, iconic landmarks, beaches, architectures, local sports, tradition & culture, monuments & heritage, streets, parks and more. It will help to gain more contribution to Wikimedia Commons.
• Total 4 categories of Competition for public: 1- Nature, 2- Religious and Cultural Events, 3- Sports & local cuisine, 4- Monuments, Streets, Buildings. Each category will get 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place Prizes (Rs 3000, Rs 2000, Rs 1000)
• Highest number of photo uploading participant will get a special prize of Rs 3000, 2nd Highest will get Rs 2000.
• Prizes for Students: Overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place
• One day Photo walk to monument places with all the participants

Expected start date and end date of the Event/Activity

• Photography competition begins from 10th May 2024
• Deadline for submissions: 10th June, 2024
• Results Declaration: 20th June 2024.

• Training Session from Photography Expert in May 2nd week

• Getting as many as Mangaluru city photos to Wikimedia Commons and spreading awareness to newly users and photographers about Wikipedia and Wikimedia commons
• Hosting this photography competition can bring together Wikipedia Association students with other photographers, artists, as new users in Wikimedia Commons for fostering collaboration and networking opportunities. It can also strengthen partnerships with local organizations for the future events.
• This competition also encourages students & public to explore their city, fostering a sense of pride and community engagement. Participants often discover hidden gems and appreciate their surroundings in new ways.
• Overall, conducting Wiki Loves Mangaluru photography competition can contribute to Wiki Commons and can serve as a wide range of opportunities to showcasing the city's beauty, engage the community, and promote its unique identity to the world.
