Purpose of category[edit]

I am migrating 3 additional subcategories from Category:User associations to meet their 2 brethren here, as it is a more appropriate location. In looking at the mix of articles and userpages in this category I am confused as to its purpose, to be honest. Is this a place for any editor on Wikimedia to list themselves or something? There are now 7 subcategories within this category including 'Wikipedians'. I suggest the creation of a subcategory Category:Wikipedians which would fit nicely to the Wikimedians and Wikiversitarians categories. This would allow us to trim the amount of subcategories this category has. An alternative to this which I have suggested involves changing the name of these associations' userboxes and corresponding categories from Wikipedians to Wikimedians. Having Category:Wikimedians under Category:Users doesn't make much sense to me. Aren't all 'users' on this wiki classed as Wikimedians as they edit here? Are there any non-wikimedian users who have user pages on this site? Could someone explain? Is this something along the lines of people who choose to identify as a wikimedian whereas no one has a choice about identifying as a user since they are called User: by default?
