Here is some information to help make your journey to Penryn a little easier.

By rail[edit]

Penryn railway station

Penryn has a railway station, which is located on a branch line which joins the main line at Truro. The branch line trains have a frequency of once every half-hour during the day. See National Rail Enquiries for journey information.

Bicycles[edit]

Note that for the GWR long distance services, cycle reservations are required to bring your bicycle with you; though this is not necessary for the branch-line trains between Truro and Falmouth.

By car[edit]

The A39 is the nearest main road to the Penryn Campus, which comes in from the North. This joins the A30 which is the main road into Cornwall at Carland Cross Roundabout. The best way to actually get there from any particular point is a subject of much debate. Buy a map and have fun. Driving time is at least 4 hours 30 mins from Birmingham, 3 hours 40 mins from Cardiff.

Parking[edit]

Parking on the Penryn Campus is charged for between 9am and 5pm weekdays, outside these times free. Parking all day would cost £6. See the campus website for details.

By bus[edit]

Proof that we have buses in Cornwall

It is possible to search bus journeys at Traveline.

Buses that arrive direct to the Penryn campus include the U1, U2 and U3 operated by First Kernow network maps.

During the day, the U1 has a half-hourly frequency travelling between Falmouth and Truro. The U2 provides a link to such exciting places as Redruth railway station. Traveline: 0871 200 22 33

By coach[edit]

There are National Express services (404 and 504 London Victoria-Penzance) that stop in Penryn. Note that not all 504 services go via Penryn, some of them take a different route through Cornwall. Megabus also have some routes to Falmouth.

There is one airport with international flights in Cornwall near Newquay. From there, there are direct flights to locations in the UK, Channel Islands, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, Spain and Portugal. For further information see the airport website. The A5 bus links Newquay Airport to the town of Newquay, taking a half-hour to reach the bus or train station. From there it is possible to take another bus (91 or 93) to Truro, and the U1 to Penryn. This takes approximately 2 hours. All of these buses are operated by First Kernow. The railway station in Newquay is on a branch line which joins the main line at Par, which means to get to Penryn you would have to change trains twice at Par and Truro.

Airports outside Cornwall[edit]

There are airports outside Cornwall in Exeter and Bristol airports, with a driving time to Penryn of at least 2 hours and 3 hours respectively. If you arrive via Exeter airport a number 56 bus can take you to Exeter St. Davids railway station from which it is possible to catch a train to Penryn, via Truro.
