Description

All new volunteers/editors might have one thing in common — an excitement to contribute. They may also have a set of common questions they need answered.

I would imagine the following two questions (and many more) would make that list of frequently asked questions:

  • How to make a new Wikipedia article?
  • How to update an existing Wikipedia article?

When a volunteer enters any such questions in the Wikipedia search, the current results showcase links back to English Wikipedia, Portuguese Wikipedia, Japanese Wikipedia, and other popular Wikipedia-related pages (like Reliability of Wikipedia, History of Wikipedia etc.) As an aside, the thumbnails associated with each one of these pages is the same Wikipedia logo, making all results look effectively the same.

It might be useful for new volunteers to see search results for their common queries somewhere on the top of the Wikipedia search page. This might avoid an extra trip to Google and make the new volunteers feel supported by the community.

Finally, attempting to find the most common or frequently asked questions by new volunteers/editors will create more effective wishlists, too.
