Content Partnerships Hub Improving the Wikimedia movement’s work with content partners |
OpenRefine
OpenRefine is an open-source application for cleaning up data and working with data on Wikidata. It is currently being further developed to support Wikimedia Commons functionalities, including Structured Data on Commons integration and uploading files.
The content partnerships hub is involved in the development of OpenRefine by:
- Keeping up with how the progress is going
- Testing and providing feedback about new features
- Sharing our experience from the large-scale uploads we have done and the tools we have used, as well as from working from GLAM staff
OpenRefine is already an important tool for Wikidata editors and has the potential of taking a similar role on Wikimedia Commons. In our experience, which is shared by many members of the Wikimedia community, there's an acute need for such a tool. The hub staff are following the development process closely and seeing the new features as they are designed and implemented. This means that once a Wikimedia Commons compatible version of OpenRefine is released, we will be able to not only quickly implement it in our own work, but also present it to GLAM staff and provide them with training so that they can start using it as well. This is in line with our role as a hub, to be able to react to changes affecting content partnerships and provide support around them.
