Activating Deputy[edit]
Once Deputy is installed, navigate to any CCI case page. As soon as Deputy is loaded by your browser, it will begin to load any background data that it requires. Once complete, links and buttons related to execution will appear on the page. Links and buttons that relate specifically to CCI case sections will only appear under headers which follow the "Pages X to Y" (or similar) format. For performance, Deputy breaks apart case pages by sections; each section has a set of "rows" (pages) and each row has a given set of revisions. At the heading of the section, you will be able to see a [[[:Template:Fake link]]] link. This link immediately begins a CCI section on that specific section. To load more sections, you must request them to be loaded once Deputy has finished starting up.
If you have opened a case before, Deputy will add a banner at the top of the case page once it finishes loading. It contains information on when you last worked on a case and which section you last worked on. When continuing a session by clicking on , Deputy will reactivate using the last section you worked on. [[[:Template:Fake link]]] links will also appear on each section heading. When clicked, it will activate Deputy on that specific section as well.[lower-alpha 1]
During the loading process, Deputy will gather information about each revision listed on the section, such as its revision IDs, date performed, total byte difference, edit summary, etc. The format is deliberately similar to the format of revisions found in page histories. All links will open in new tabs, so you don't need to worry about inadvertently exiting and losing your progress. Deputy will also prevent browser navigation while a section is open.
Remember to close (and save) sections when you're finished working. You can only work on one page at a time, so opening another case page while a session is open will show a warning. Additionally, you can only work on the same case page on one tab at a time.
Processing pages[edit]
Each row has a dropdown at its very left, which indicates a row's assessment. The assessment determines an editor's final verdict on a page: whether a copyright violation was found, not found, or otherwise. A final assessment is not saved unless all revisions have been checked. You are also required to provide an assessment if all revisions have been checked. Beside each revision is a checkbox, which indicates whether or not you've checked the revision. If the checkbox is ticked, saving will remove that specific revision link from the page. At the bottom of the section, there is also an option to close the section with an optional comment. This is used when all rows of a section have already been checked.

The following detail the parts of the assessment interface, from top to bottom, left to right:
- For every page,
- Assessment dropdown – determines the assessment for a given page
- Page title – the title of the page being investigated
- Summarized revision information – shows how many edits were made to the page by this user, whether this user created the page, and the byte difference of the largest edit on the page
- Template:OOUI icon Edit button – button that edits the page
- Template:OOUI icon Talk button – button that leads to the page's talk page
- Template:OOUI icon History button – button that leads to the page's history
- Template:OOUI icon Review all button – button that marks all revisions in that row as reviewed
- Closing comments – additional comments from the copyright editor, will be added to the page once assessed
- For every revision,
- Revision assessment checkbox – a checkbox denoting whether this revision has been reviewed or not
- Revision data – information on the given revision and its links
- At the bottom of the section,
- Section closing comments – to be used in the start-collapse top-end that will close the section
- Section closing checkbox – when ticked, closes the section
- Close button – for closing the current session
- Review button – to review changes
- Save button – to save your changes to the page
Once a section has been fully assessed, you can close it with an optional comment. To prevent unintended changes, Deputy will not load for a section that is already closed.
Page toolbar[edit]
Whenever Deputy is active, a page toolbar will appear at the bottom left corner when viewing a diff or a page that is the subject of an active session. The page toolbar communicates with the main Deputy session, allowing you to focus on work on the tab with the page toolbar. The following detail the parts of the page toolbar, from left to right:
- Assessment dropdown – determines the assessment for the current page
- Case title – the case title, including any suffix
- Revision assessment checkbox – acts the same as the revision checkbox in the main session
- Next revision button – navigates (in place) to the next unassessed revision, no reloading required
- Analysis options – provides options for analyzing a given diff or page's contents
- This currently includes options to analyze the page using Earwig's Copyvio Tool or the Internet Archive bot.
- Tools options – provides tools to help with copyright-related tasks.
- This currently includes options that activate the Attribution Notice Template Editor and Infringement Assistant
Changes you make on the assessment dropdown and checkbox are applied on all pages that have the same dropdown and checkbox. This includes the main Deputy session page and other tabs with the diff open. This way, you no longer have to juggle between tabs to mark a revision as assessed.
