[Exploring collaborative approaches to combat disinformation in ESEAP][edit]

Abstract/description[edit]

A panel discussion comprising presentations and small group discussions that explore how members of the Wikimedia ESEAP community and affiliates can collaborate alongside the Foundation in order to improve Wikimedia projects’ protection against disinformation.

Relationship to ESEAP or to the theme[edit]

This session will first update the audience on the priorities and regional work of the Wikimedia Foundation’s Global Advocacy team. Wikimedians from the ESEAP region will then share their experiences countering disinformation on Wikimedia projects, as well as how they have partnered with the Foundation to do so. Regional Wikimedia staff and volunteers will then lead breakout groups to brainstorm collaborative approaches and opportunities to address specific disinformation-related challenges facing our platforms, including correcting false information, improving information literacy, and raising awareness about how Wikimedia projects work, among others. The objective is to crowdsource ideas for how the movement can better mitigate these challenges and, in turn, improve Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects’ protection against disinformation.
