ESEAP Conference 2024/Report/JM99
I am Jessie Mi, Representing the Taiwan chapter at the ESEAP conference. And I am also the regional ambassador of A+F East Asia.
Therefore, when choosing the agenda to participate this time, I pay more attention to sharing experiences in the community and gender-related topics.
Things learned[edit]
- Seeing her dedication to Wikipedia and how she turned her actions into books was incredibly moving. I plan to share her story with more female participants to inspire them.
- This project produced many compelling photos and field research, sparking my interest and giving me deeper insight into the Philippines.
Things contributed or participated in[edit]
- I think this topic is very contradictory. After all, Wikipedia is banned in China. Of course, it is not as well-known in China as Baidu Baike. But I don't think it's a simple matter to push Wikipedia volunteers in the opposite direction of government policy.
- However, I still shared with the speaker the successful experience of the WikiWomen Taiwan community and the implementation results of A+F for her research and use during lunch time.
Plans after the conference[edit]
- Sharing A+F Activities and Dashboard Usage with the Amis Community in Taiwan.
- Next year will be the 10th anniversary of Taiwan’s women’s community
- I will be collating the data this year and preparing a presentation for next year's conference
- ESEAP 2026 in Taiwan:I am very happy that the Taiwan Chapter has won the right to host ESEAP 2026, and I look forward to meeting you all in Kaohsiung! As the directors of the Taiwan branch, we will make complete preparations so that everyone can participate in the next meeting comfortably!
Comments or suggestions about the conference[edit]
- Meet first-time ESEAP participants
- Meeting editors from countries such as Mongolia, Vietnam and Japan was very motivating and informative.
- Technical issues with hybrid conference settings
- This attempt to synchronize the live experience with the online meeting resulted in some technical difficulties with sound and projection, but fortunately the problems have been resolved. Before holding a meeting in the future, it may be necessary to conduct various tests to ensure that the meeting can proceed smoothly.

- Their help in ensuring all participants felt safe throughout the event was greatly appreciated.
Other Things[edit]
This was my second time attending the ESEAP conference, and unexpectedly, I made many friends from Indonesia. I even learned to count to three in Indonesian and discovered that the word for "five" in Austronesian languages is often "Lima," which is also used by the Amis community from Taiwan. This linguistic connection helped bridge the cultural gap between us. At the Mari Mari Cultural Village, I saw many architectural and cultural similarities to Taiwanese indigenous cultures, deepening my understanding of Sabah's diversity.
During the Karaoke Party, I experienced the power of the K-Pop. Not only could I converse in Korean with friends from the Korea chapter, but I also found many others from various countries who spoke some Korean.
