私は今回初めてWikimediaに関するイベントに参加することができました。スカラシップを通じて支援いただいたスタッフの皆様、ユーザーグループメンバーを代表するような形で送り出していただいたWikimedians of Japan User Groupの皆様、そのほか関係者の皆様に感謝しながら、レポートを提出します。

This was my first time to participate in a Wikimedia event. I would like to submit this report with my sincere gratitude to the staff who supported me through the scholarship, the Wikimedians of Japan User Group who sent me off as a representative of the user group members, and all other people involved.
参加までの準備 Preparation[edit]

今回のスカラシップでは、WMFが契約する旅行システムを通じて航空券の予約を行うシステムだったこともあり、手配は比較的スムーズに事が進みました。また、発表への応募もフォームを通じてのもので、今回はユーザーグループメンバーとの間で協議し、2023年にユーザーグループで実施した日本国内のWikipedia編集者に対するアンケート結果の発表をすることとしました。
出発に際して少々個人的なトラブルはありましたが、それ以外大きな問題もなく現地会場に到着することができました。

For this scholarship, the flight reservations were made through a travel system contracted by WMF, so the arrangements went relatively smoothly. Applications for presentations were also made through a form, and after discussing it with the user group members, we decided to present the results of a survey of Wikipedia editors in Japan conducted by the user group in 2023.
Although there were some personal issues upon departure, we were able to arrive at the local venue without any other major problems.

今回、User Groupにてボールペンを作成し、お土産として提供させていただきました。30本ほどだったこともあり、１日目午前中にはすべてなくなっていました。
今回私は１本のセッションを発表させていただきました。
私の英語の能力があまりなかったことから翻訳ツールを使ってスピーチ原稿を作成し、スムーズでない発表となりましたが、調査した結果を今回の形で公表したことは、ユーザーグループの活動を報告できたよい事例として考えています。
そのほか、会議の中では、参加された各国でのウィキメディアとGRAMとの取り組み、またTrust & Safetyに関する財団の取り組みの紹介など、今後日本国内でのウィキメディアの活動に際しても考えなければならない取り組みが多数あることを感じました。またこの場に日本から参加する人が少ないため、日本のウィキメディアンが考えていることや、日本国内での活動に関する問題点を届けることができていなかったことを痛感しました。
今回はuser:Wadakuramonさん、User:Eugene Ormandyさんのセッションと合わせて、「Community Spotlight: Japan」として3本連続でセッションをさせていただきました。今回のような形でセッションが組まれること自体、日本のコミュニティからWikimedia movementに対して情報発信する機会が少なかったのではないかと考えております。
私の発表したセッション以外では、Wikidataの編集を楽にしてくれそうなMix'n'Matchのセッションなどに参加し、今後のUser Groupの露出に関するヒントが見つかりました。

This time, we created ballpoint pens at the User Group and provided them as souvenirs. There were only about 30 of them, and they were all gone by the morning of the first day.
This time, I presented one session.
Because my English skills were not very good, I used a translation tool to create a speech manuscript, which made the presentation less smooth, but I think that publishing the results of the survey in this format is a good example of how we were able to report on the activities of the user group.
In addition, during the conference, we heard about Wikimedia's work with GRAM in each participating country, as well as the Foundation's efforts regarding Trust & Safety, and I felt that there are many initiatives that Wikimedia must consider when carrying out its activities in Japan in the future. Also, because there were few participants from Japan, I realized that I had not been able to convey what Japanese Wikimedians are thinking or the issues regarding their activities in Japan.
This time, we held three consecutive sessions under the title "Community Spotlight: Japan," along with sessions by user:Wadakuramon and User:Eugene Ormandy. I believe that the fact that the sessions were organized in this format means that there have been few opportunities for the Japanese community to disseminate information about the Wikimedia movement.
In addition to the sessions I presented, I also attended sessions on Mix'n'Match, which I believe will make editing Wikidata easier, and I found some hints regarding future exposure of the User Group.
今後の行動計画 Plans after the conference[edit]

- User Groupの活動として、Wikimedia movementの活動全体を広報すること。特に、Wikipedia以外のプロジェクトを紹介することにより、Wikipediaに貢献したいが、Wikipediaが求めているコンテンツとのミスマッチにより悩んでいる人たちに対して適切なプロジェクトに誘導することは、Wikipediaへの信頼性向上とWikimedia Movementへの貢献につながり、有益と感じる。

- As part of the User Group's activities, we will promote the activities of the Wikimedia movement as a whole. In particular, by introducing projects other than Wikipedia, we can guide people who want to contribute to Wikipedia but are worried that the content they are looking for is not matching the content that Wikipedia is looking for to appropriate projects, which we feel is beneficial as it will increase the credibility of Wikipedia and contribute to the Wikimedia movement.

- 今回、素晴らしい会場とファシリテート、そしてスカラシップを提供していただいた、Wikimedia Malaysiaの方々を筆頭とする現地スタッフの方々に感謝します。もう少し不自由な生活になると思っていましたが、現地での生活面では何も心配することなく、ほぼ日本国内で活動するのと同じような環境で過ごすことができたことに感謝します。
- 次回のカンファレンスでは、コミュニティでの決定事項に対し、議題を事前提起していただいて参加者がプレリードする機会をいただけると助かります。また、次回開催地の立候補は事前に開催計画などを提案に含めていただけると幸いです。

- I would like to thank the local staff, especially those from Wikimedia Malaysia, for providing us with a wonderful venue, facilitators, and scholarships. I thought I would have a more restricted life, but I am grateful that I was able to spend my time here without having to worry about anything and in an environment that was almost the same as if I were working in Japan.
- For the next conference, it would be helpful if you could raise an agenda in advance for decisions made by the community and give participants an opportunity to pre-lead. Also, if you are planning to host the next conference, I would appreciate it if you could include your plans in your proposal in advance.
