Editing Wikipedia to understand our past: Enriching Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s local history on Wikipedia[edit]
Abstract/description[edit]
In 2023 Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira received Wikimedia Foundation Alliance funding for a project to enhance and enrich Auckland local history Wikipedia pages and provide resources for teachers and students for the new compulsory Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum.
This presentation will provide an overview of the second stage of the project which involved four Wikipedia Summer Students working at the Museum creating and editing local history related content. The Summer Students Helen, Harry, Anjuli and Rebecca (Hs17127, Summ23, Worldsgreatestmum and Winnieswikiworld) will discuss the experience, highlights and outcomes of their ten-week internships.
