What can (or should) I build with this?! Pedagogical Challenges in Teaching Wikidata as a Tool (An Indonesian Experience)[edit]

Abstract/description[edit]

Wikidata is an important linked open data repository, linking between important datasets and preserving facts or concepts to improve Wikipedia's (also other Wikimedia projects) readability for machines or as a data source for public or academic research. However, this benefit often hides behind complex technicality (concepts and techniques like SPARQL, LOD, API, etc.) that made first-time learners stop learning beyond editing old data and adding new data. In this session, the presenter will share their experience teaching Wikidata in the Indonesian community, their difficulties, and strategies to direct the learning process.

Relationship to ESEAP or to the theme[edit]

Community expansion, creating collaboration among tech laymen, academicians, and technicians in using Wikidata.
