Wikidata workshop: The language of education in the ESEAP region[edit]

Abstract/description[edit]

Wikimedia projects have much to contribute to the UNESCO Sustainable Development Goal 4 to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. This workshop considers how we can use Wikidata to help improve the essential infrastructure of the ecosystem of free knowledge to support education in the ESEAP region.

In this workshop, participants will add labels, statements, identifiers and references to Wikidata and discover where gaps exist in their languages, countries and education priorities. Mapping key education concepts in regional languages will support other Wikimedia projects. For example, education is a year-long priority for Women in Red in 2024, and Wikidata in Education projects will also benefit from this work.

Relationship to ESEAP or to the theme[edit]

This workshop highlights the benefits of collaboration across the ESEAP region to improve the infrastructure supporting education content. Participants could adapt the workshop to use with educators and Wikimedians in their affiliate or country's education systems.
