WikiLatih Wiktionary with the Goethe-Institut was a series of in-person workshops organized by Wikimedia Indonesia to strengthen the digital presence of Indonesia’s local languages through Wiktionary. Held in Jakarta in October and November 2025 as part of the Digital Discourses 2025 program, the activities introduced participants to basic Wiktionary editing and focused on documenting endangered languages such as Balik, Orang Rimba, and Isam. The initiative resulted in 176 new entries and the expansion of 289 existing entries, highlighting how collaborative contributions to open platforms play a vital role in preserving linguistic and cultural heritage in the digital age. Postgraduate architecture students at Rivers State University documented Nigerian heritage buildings through semester-long Wikimedia training, research, photography, and a guided edit-a-thon, contributing lasting open knowledge to Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. In response, Wikimedia Indonesia held #WikipediaxAI in November 2025, an online program with basic editing trainings, community meetup, and panel discussions to explore the connections between Wikipedia, AI, and the future development of human knowledge. Read more… Wikimedia UK and the University of Birmingham collaborated on a joint workshop for 55 school children on Knowledge in the Digital Age. Students participated in interactive sessions on conspiracy theories, the benefits and harms of social media and open knowledge. They developed their understanding of Wikipedia and looked for knowledge gaps and underrepresentation, showing how important it is for young people to contribute to open knowledge. Read more…
