EduWiki Camp 2022 in Serbia: Together again
After a two-year break and organizing two Online EduWiki Camps in 2020 and 2021, Wikimedia Serbia has again organized the EduWiki Camp in person. This event, the fifth in a row, brought together participants who had the opportunity to learn about the programs and projects of Wikimedia Serbia, but also to improve their skills that will help them in further volunteer engagement in Wikimedia Serbia. Ten students from different parts of Serbia participated in the camp, which was held from July 25 to 28 in Fruška Gora.
This year's camp was an opportunity for students to gain knowledge about Wiki projects, and also to learn how they can implement Wiki activities in their environment, primarily at the faculties they study. This year's team of lecturers consisted of educational program manager Nebojša Ratković, project and community manager Ivana Madžarević, manager for cooperation with cultural institutions Gorana Gomirac, and wiki ambassador Sara Horvat.
When planning the camp, we wanted to meaningfully connect the lectures and workshops into larger units, which is why we focused on three projects - Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata. The fourth unit consisted of interactive workshops on the topic of writing projects, creating partnerships with educational institutions, and assertive communication. EduWiki camp was designed with the idea that after the end of the camp the participants work on spreading information about free knowledge and presenting Wiki projects in academic circles. We tried to encourage the interactivity of the participants during all the workshops and to motivate them to propose solutions that will lead to the spread of the Wikipedia Education Program of Wikimedia Serbia. That is why we gave immense importance this year to activities aimed at connecting participants and team building.
The camp began with the arrival at Fruška Gora, where the participants had the opportunity to hear more about the activities of Wikimedia Serbia, which they can join. The second day of the camp started with a presentation on editing Wikipedia using a visual editor, after which the participants had the opportunity to write articles on Wikipedia. The third day of the camp focused on Wikimedia Commons, CC licenses, and the GLAM program. The participants also had the opportunity to learn more about the concept of edit-a-thons, the Dashboard tool, and user rights on Wikipedia. During the other presentations, the participants got familiar with Wikidata and had the opportunity to improve the skills that can help them in their further involvement in Wikimedia Serbia. We hope that the participants took away from the camp a pleasant experience that will motivate and encourage them to be collaborators of Wikimedia Serbia in the future.
