Celebrating 2022 WikiVibrance in Kwara State University Malete

Résumé : The Kwara State University celebrated International Youth Day (IYD) 2022 to recognise the tremendous work of its student editors to improve the content and its visibility on Wikipedia and its sister projects.

The KWASU WikiVibrance 2022 campaign was held in collaboration with the International Wikivibrance Organisers with approval and support from the school management to advance the academic community contributions to open education and open content that aligns with the theme of the International Youth Day tagged “Intergenerational solidarity: promoting a world for all ages.

This campaign involved both lecturers and students of the University and ran from the 1st to the 18th of September 2022; Learnings derived from participating in this program include:

  • Encouraging youth participation in volunteering using Wikimedia projects as a goal.
  • Training Youths/other participants on editing, and content creation that promote the voice, action, and contributions of youth to the growth and development of their countries among others.
  • Familiarization with the aims and objectives of International Youth Day and its significance.

Activités

  1. We hosted two talk shows on the University Radio KwasuRadio 103.9fm with James Moore, Bukky658, and Blessing Linason to learn more about the impact of WikiVibrance on this year's International Youth Day (IYD) 2022.
  2. Carried out 2 series of onboarding and online training sessions to guide and train participants on how to edit Wikipedia articles relating to the theme of the campaign.
  3. We held a closing ceremony with over 36 participants to celebrate the contributions of participants at the end of the campaign and gave out gift vouchers to 3 top editors: Iffy Kay, Margob28, and Abiodun Lambaba.
