Wikimedia Estonia talked about education at CEE meeting in Tbilisi
WMEE presentation
Wikimedia Estonia (WMEE) made a presentation "Education with Wikipedia in the Estonian Way", in which we gave a brief overview of the use of Wikipedia in the context of education – how it started and what we have achieved by today. This short video sums it up
The presentation was inspiring for other participants as well. For example, Hans Gutbrod, the professor of Ilia State University in Georgia has lately written the article on how Georgia should embrace Wikipedia as part of its knowledge strategy and mainstream this into higher education using Estonian model as an example.
Impressions
At the Tbilisi meeting WMEE was represented by four members and here are some of their impressions:
Ursula Erik: I have been in two CEE meetings, in 2018 in Belgrade, Serbia, and now in Tbilisi. What I like most about these meetings is the friendly atmosphere and interesting people. The place is also important. Someone once said in the media that Georgia is undoubtedly European – Tbilisi really is, and it is also a friendly and warm city. The best surprise was the city dogs walking around the city on their own.
For WMEE it was important to participate and get to know what others are doing and also to make yourself visible. You can also learn from others and get good ideas.
Käbi Laan: The Georgian hosts were wonderful and the entire conference was held in a warm and pleasant atmosphere. We could listen to the presentations and even dance together at the party. Such regional conferences are an ideal platform for having your voice in shaping the wikispace of Central and Eastern Europe. This kind of representation also ensures that the special features of the Baltic countries are also taken into account when shaping the wider picture.
Pille Priks: Network meetings are necessary for people to get to know each other precisely for the purpose of exchanging experiences and further cooperation may grow out of it. At this meeting I met many people in person whom I had known only by name. I think that the network of the CEE region is necessary especially for cooperation, exchange of experiences and learning from each other. It is good to feel that we are not alone and that other chapters have similar problems, worries and joys. It's also good to hear about other people's work successes, because it gives more motivation. Thank you also, Wikimedia Georgia, for hospitality and for organizing such a great meeting!
