The Reliable Sources Drive for Wikipedia

Event Description[edit]

The Reliable Sources Drive for Wikipedia initiative, led by the Open Knowledge Development Initiative (OKDI), targets the persistent challenge faced by Wikipedia editors in sourcing reliable information, especially in English and other local languages like Hausa and Fulfulbe that are prevalent in the North eastern Nigeria. This deficiency results in a notable number of articles lacking credible sources, thereby jeopardizing their notability status. The project endeavors to tackle this issue through a multifaceted strategy encompassing training sessions, edit-a-thons, outreach programs, and collaboration with newspaper journalists. By furnishing guidance on leveraging trustworthy sources, the project aspires to nurture the production of high-caliber Wikipedia articles that faithfully depict local communities and languages, with a particular focus on underrepresented regions such as the North.

Goals and Objectives[edit]

Goals[edit]

1. Increase awareness and understanding among Wikipedia editors in the North, particularly those using local languages, about the importance of reliable sourcing and notability criteria.

2. Facilitate the creation and improvement of a significant number of Wikipedia articles with reliable sources, particularly in English and other underrepresented languages and regions.

3. Encourage participation and contributions from reliable newspaper journalists, thereby enhancing the quality and reliability of Wikipedia content.
