Wiki Loves Africa (WLA) is an annual contest where anyone across Africa can contribute free media that is relevant to their experience to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia communities (Wikimedia movement), and also make this shared media freely available for the Humankind.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the contest and the international organizers think its a good opportunity to reflect on the journey so far hence this event. The theme for 2024 is Africa creates and participants are encouraged to contribute media (photographs, video and audio) that illustrate the specific theme.

  • Open to all current and previous participants, organizers, community leaders and stakeholders, photographers and related communities, Wikimedia staff and members of the open knowledge movement interested in media, contests and/or Africa.
  • Great for both new and experienced Wikimedians.
  • The global launch will happen online using Zoom. Everyone interested can join us.
  • To take part, please register on this event page. It's a great chance for people who are new or already know about Wiki Loves Africa to work together and learn. It is guaranteed to be a fun fun fun event.
  • Note: There will be live translations in French and in Arabic languages provided for by the foundation.
