FII Wiki Project/Edit-a-thons/Queer Rights Activists

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

On 10 February 2018, FII Wiki Project and Nazariya LGBT hosted a Wikipedia edit-a-thon on Queer Rights Activists at the South Asian University. The edit-a-thon was aimed at creating/editing Wikipedia pages of Indian queer rights activists who lack representation on the platform currently. The articles were created and expanded in English. Additional statistics can been seen on the P&E dashboard here. A report of the edit-a-thon is also documented on the FII website here.

Participant Testimonial[edit]

User: Somya Jain Jhansi said, "The Wikipedia-editathon was an amazing experience for us. I wasn’t aware that we as citizens could edit and omit information on important yet uncovered topics like queer activists and history. The research I undertook for appropriate information on a queer activist made me realize the importance of the whole picture that Wikipedia, one of the main sources of information globally, provides. To gather all the essential information about an activist who deserves to be recognized and then write about it to ensure that she’s represented on Wikipedia was a meaningful experience (apart from hogging all the pizza, of course!)."
