Igbo Wikimedians User Group

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede Ig Wiki Fan Club is a community of Wikimedians, comprising both students and lecturers, who work towards the common goal of promoting Igbo language and culture through various Wikimedia projects. We are always open to sharing ideas, collaborating with other mission-aligned institutions, and partnering with organizations to ensure that knowledge resources are free and accessible to everyone. Federal Polytechnic Nekede Ig Wiki Fan Club is a subsidiary of the Igbo Wikimedians User Group.

The Beginning

On the 25th of April, 2024, the "Federal Polytechnic Nekede Ig Wiki Fan Club" was officially established in partnership with the Mass Communication Department of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede. The launch was attended by both students and lecturers from various departments within the institution. The event was marked by a display of enthusiasm and support from all participants. The "Federal Polytechnic Nekede Ig Wiki Fan Club" is expected to serve as a platform for promoting academic excellence and social interaction among students and staff of the institution.

Objectives

Our Mission includes but not limited to ensuring free and easy accessible knowledge resources at no cost which we aim to achive through the Wikimedia projects

• To recruit and engage members/participants to be actively involved in the fan club's activities.
• To encourage undergraduate students/other interested participants to contribute to the free knowledge initiative of Wikimedia Foundation.
• To train members/participants on the intricacies of contributing through translating articles from the English Wikipedia to Igbo Wikipedia.
• To organize events for the recruitment of new editors/translators to actively participate and encourage continuity by involving old members.

The club will be organising online and in-person meet-ups for her members to give room for exchange of ideas, challenges, recommendations and feedbacks.
