What is it?[edit]
The Ghanaian Wikimedia Languages Meetup is a well mini conference that is designed to bring Wikimedians together who are working on the indigenous languages Wikipedias in Ghana.
Most Ghanaians who contribute to the local languages have similar challenges and bringing them together will give them a sense of belonging and boost their confidence in digitizing their languages to prevent it from going into extinction and also closing up the digital divide that keeps people disconnected from the internet because of language barriers. Also to learn from the various communities in Ghana: Every community has its strengths and weaknesses and bringing all the language Wikimedia communities together will provide fertile ground for brainstorming on how to better stand out the language platforms and also learn from the others what has worked and what did not work. And also, every community has a special skill and experience so bringing these communities together would help us learn from one another skills such as community development, volunteer retention, leadership development, and others. Also to recruit new volunteers: meetups provide avenues for creating awareness about the existence of Wikimedia volunteers which attract the attention of the general public hence leading to the recruitment of more volunteers.
