Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

Girls and their mentors are not significantly engaged in contributing to Wikipedia.

What is your solution?[edit]

By encouraging and facilitating Girl Scouts to contribute Wikipedia content in order to earn the Social Media Badge, girls will develop the habit of making such contributions. In parallel, mentors and Wikipedia editors need to be cognizant of and set aside adult biases against topics and content that they might otherwise deem unworthy of inclusion in Wikipedia. If possible, content submitted by girls (and boys) should be edited by other youth (in addition to oversight by the usual adult mentors). In addition, a teen who makes significant Wikipedia content contributions and/or edits should be recognized in a fashion that could be included on college applications (or even resumes).
