This page documents a process common to all or most of WMF's grants programs. Please don't edit this page, but please do leave a comment on the discussion page instead.

Purpose and background[edit]

These are the instructions for returning funds to WMF by wire or check. In some cases, other options for returning funds may be available if they are needed. If you need to be reimbursed for expenses incurred for returning funds, please contact WMF in advance of the transfer so that these expenses can be approved. For more about why these instructions may be needed, please see Grants:Remaining funds. If you return funds by any method, it is important that you let WMF know when you are returning the funds and why so that we may make sure to record receipt of the funds.

By wire[edit]

Please wire the remaining funds to the following account:

Once wired, please send a note to grantsadmin at wikimedia dot org, so that we may trace your wire.

By check[edit]

Within the US, grantees may return unused funds by check. Please make your check out to "Wikimedia Foundation" and mail it to the following address:

Grants Administrator
Wikimedia Foundation
1 Montgomery St., Suite 1600
San Francisco, CA 94104

Please include a note or memo specifying why the funds are being returned, from whom, and which grant it's in reference to.

Deduct unused funds from a future disbursement to the grantee[edit]

In some cases, WMF may consider deducting unused grant funds from a future disbursement to a grantee if the grantee has a new grant request already approved at the time funds are due, or if a new request is currently under consideration at the time funds are due (and is subsequently approved). In some cases, this may save the grantee the time and expenses associated with returning the funds to WMF.

Please note that this arrangement must be approved with WMF staff in writing at the time unused funds are reported, and may not be acceptable in all cases.
