What specific Movement Strategy Initiative does your project focus on and why? Please select one of the initiatives described here
Ensure Equity in Decision-Making, Increase the Sustainability of Our Movement

Project Background

[edit]
When do you intend to begin this project and when will it be completed?
The project is scheduled to start on March 18 and end on April 15, just before the Wikimedia Summit.
Where will your project activities be happening?
They will be developed in Colombia, initially we contemplate hybrid spaces, which will allow us to move at least two people from the territory in each activity. This in order to broaden the framework of governance within Colombia.
Are you collaborating with other communities or affiliates on this project? Please provide details of how partners intend to work together to achieve the project goal.
We are currently contemplating these activities for the Wikimedia Colombia community.
What specific challenge will your project be aiming to solve? And what opportunities do you plan to take advantage of to solve the problem?
We want more volunteers in Colombia to learn about the movement's charter and build a collective position on it. We are going to make use of hubricated meeting spaces, and this initiative will also be led by people who have been leading the chapter and know about governance in other movements. Finally, we will ask people from the charter drafting committee to meet with the community to do a collaborative construction and advocacy exercise.
Does this project aim to apply one of the examples shared in the call for grants and if so which one?
Yes, to the movement strategy and ambassador fund.

Project Activities

[edit]
What specific activities will be carried out during this project? Please describe the specific activities that will be carried out during this project.
  • Call to action!
    • Date: March 18-22, 2024
    • A call for participation in the activity will be made to people from the assembly, people from the board and people from the Wikimedia Colombia community interested in participating.
  • Session I: Understanding
    • The first session will be dedicated to present the key issues to understand the Movement's Charter and its relevance for Colombia. At the end of this session, the community is expected to adopt an argued position in relation to the points discussed in the charter and understand the interests at stake.
  • Session II: Asking-us
    • Open session in which one of the people drafting the letter will be invited, we have two Spanish speakers: Jorge Vargas or Pepe Flores.
  • Session III: Proposals for action
    • Finally we will have a collective sharing session, in which from the analysis, the challenges and also the strategic plan of Wikimedia Colombia we can make recommendations, reach consensus and share it with the Wikimedia movement, both in writing and in governance scenarios.

Additional information

[edit]
If your activities include community discussions, what is your plan for ensuring that the conversations are productive? Provide a link to a Friendly Space Policy or UCoC that will be implemented to support these discussions.
In addition to adhering to WMF's safe and friendly spaces policy, we have consolidated community principles and agreements that are contained in this publication.

We have also adapted some of the principles of the universal code of conduct. https://co.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikid%C3%ADa_2023/Reglamento

If your activities include the use of paid online tools, please describe what tools these are and how you intend to use them.
We will use Zoom and also tools such as etherpad and jamborad. The application plan is covered by the Wikimedia Colombia budget.
Do your activities include the translation of materials, and if so, in what languages will the translation be done? Please include details of those responsible for making the translations.
We will not translate, but we will make use of the materials in Spanish.
Are there any other details you would like to share? Consider providing rationale, research or community discussion outputs, and any other similar information, that will give more context on your proposed project.
Since 2021, Wikimedia Colombia has focused on consolidating a governance system aligned with the principles of the Wikimedia Movement. This has led us to consolidate online and face-to-face discussion spaces. We have already had two versions of wikidia, and in the last version the need arose to discuss other instances of governance that allow us to make our position and voices known.

This activity will be the first phase of a series of meetings and processes that we will develop throughout the year, with an interest in strengthening our governance system.

Outcomes

[edit]

After your activities are complete, we would like to understand the draft implementation plan for your community. You will be required to prepare a document detailing this plan around a movement strategy initiative. This report can be prepared through Meta-wiki using the Share your results button on this page. The report can be prepared in your language, and is not required to be written in English.

In this report, you will be asked to:

  • Provide a link to the draft implementation plan document or Wikimedia page
  • Describe what activities supported the development of the plan
  • Describe how and where you have communicated your plan to relevant communities.
  • Report on how your funding was spent

Your draft implementation plan document should address the following questions clearly:

  • What movement strategy initiative or goal are you addressing?
  • What activities will you be doing to address that initiative?
  • What do you expect will happen as a result of your activities? How do those outcomes address the movement strategy initiative?
  • How will you measure or evaluate your activities? What tools or methods will you use to evaluate your activities?

To create a draft implementation plan, we recommend the use of a logic model, which will help you and your team think about goals, activities, outcomes, and other factors in an organized way. Please refer the following resources to develop a logic model:

Please confirm below that you will be able to prepare a draft implementation plan document by the end of your grant:

Optionally, you are welcome to include other information you'd like to share around participation and representation in your activities. Please include any additional outcomes you would like to report on below:
