Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

What problem are you trying to solve by doing this project? This problem should be small enough that you expect it to be completely or mostly resolved by the end of this project. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

  • Spatial vagueness and imprecision of protected and unprotected objects of cultural heritage in Serbia
  • Only a few objects are given dimensions
  • There are only a few 3D models of cultural monuments in Serbia
  • There is no an overall map of the cultural heritage of Serbia

What is your solution to this problem?[edit]

For the problem you identified in the previous section, briefly describe your how you would like to address this problem. We recognize that there are many ways to solve a problem. We’d like to understand why you chose this particular solution, and why you think it is worth pursuing. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

  • Locations will be determined by the camera with geotagger (camera position) and by ortho-photo maps (object position).
  • Dimensions of the monuments will be measured by laser rangefinder Leica DISTO S910, the data is sent directly to the laptop where the initial model object is going to be generated in DXF format.
  • 3D model objects are photographed from all sides with a sufficient overlap photos. Software Pix4DMapper links photos and measurements in the 3D model of the object. The resulting 3D model can be uploaded to the website Sketchfab. Virtual tour will be exported into a video file for Wikimedia.
  • All recorded monuments will be presented on an interactive map that will be created through Google Fusion Tables applications.

Project goals[edit]

What are your goals for this project? Your goals should describe the top two or three benefits that will come out of your project. These should be benefits to the Wikimedia projects or Wikimedia communities. They should not be benefits to you individually. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

Official record of immovable cultural heritage maintained by the National Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments, Belgrade (http://www.heritage.gov.rs/latinica/nepokretna_kulturna_dobra.php), in which the Central Registry is are 2,531 objects. Of these 2,188 are cultural monuments, 75 cultural & historical entities, 191 archaeological sites and 77 places of interest. A good example of standardization and centralized evidential is an electronic catalog of cultural monuments in Serbia, created by the Mathematical Institute SANU (Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts)(http://spomenicikulture.mi.sanu.ac.rs/list.php). However, a large number of monuments doesn’t have coordinates or are they could be false. An example of the wrong coordinates - Monastery Blagoveštenje Rudničko:

  • https: //www.google.rs/maps ... 44.14587740 20.58820720 exact coordinates
  • http://spomenicikulture.mi.sanu.ac.rs... 44.10900634 20.46462249 difference=10670m
  • wikipedia.rs... 44.15463800 20.65772700 difference=3700m

The situation is is even more difficult for the unregistered cultural heritage of Serbia. There are only a few photos, locations, and sites of churches, monasteries, churches and other sacred places, on the websites of the Serbian Orthodox Church, on Wikipedia and on the Internet in general. Goals of the project: The first three teams are going to expand their projects as they are going to do the following in each area for each cultural monuments:

  • to photograph the object from all sides
  • for each monument determine the coordinates
  • generate a 3D model based only on photos

The fourth team is going to work particularly on measuring, photographing and creating 3D models of cultural monuments.

Project impact[edit]

How will you know if you have met your goals?[edit]

For each of your goals, we’d like you to answer the following questions:

  1. During your project, what will you do to achieve this goal? (These are your outputs.)
  2. Once your project is over, how will it continue to positively impact the Wikimedia community or projects? (These are your outcomes.)

For each of your answers, think about how you will capture this information. Will you capture it with a survey? With a story? Will you measure it with a number? Remember, if you plan to measure a number, you will need to set a numeric target in your proposal (i.e. 45 people, 10 articles, 100 scanned documents). Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

  • The first three teams are going to make photographs of 150 cultural monuments, each with a hundred shots, and create 150 3D models. The existing Wikipedia pages of the monuments will be supplemented by with more than 15,000 photos.
  • The fourth team is going to, starting in Kragujevac and then around the area, based on measurements and photographs, generate 3D models for 50 cultural monuments. For Wikipedia animation will be exported in webM format and drawings of the objects, with dimensions, in SVG format.

At the end of the project:

  • It will be created or supplemented 200 pages of cultural monuments;
  • it will be created over 200 3D models;
  • it will be uploaded over 20,000 photos;
  • all 200 objects will be presented on an interactive map;
  • photo and video material, with instructions of use of the software will be an example for creating a richer content;
  • equipment will enable work on future projects without any new purchases.

Do you have any goals around participation or content?[edit]

Are any of your goals related to increasing participation within the Wikimedia movement, or increasing/improving the content on Wikimedia projects? If so, we ask that you look through these three metrics, and include any that are relevant to your project. Please set a numeric target against the metrics, if applicable.

Implementation of the project has a direct impact on increasing the content of the campaign Wiki Loves Monuments.

Project plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing? What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

Project coordinator, Zoran Blagojevic, is responsible for:

  • Obtaining permits for photographing of certain objects;
  • Purchasing and installation of hardware and software;
  • Training for the use of hardware and software;
  • Communication and monitoring of the activity of teams;
  • Оrganization of joint fieldwork if necessary;
  • Оrganization of work of the fourth team.

Framework timeline

  • Photographing cultural monuments 04/01/2017 - 12/20/2017
  • Laser measurements of monuments 07/01/2017 - 15/10/2017
  • 3D modeling 07/01/2017 - 20/12/2017
  • Total Timeframe 04/01/2017 - 12/20/2017

At the end of the project tutorials will be created with examples of using hardware and software.

How you will use the funds you are requesting? List bullet points for each expense. (You can create a table later if needed.) Don’t forget to include a total amount, and update this amount in the Probox at the top of your page too!

Community engagement[edit]

How will you let others in your community know about your project? Why are you targeting a specific audience? How will you engage the community you’re aiming to serve at various points during your project? Community input and participation helps make projects successful.

Municipalities, tourism organizations and Serbian Orthodox Church will be informed about the importance of the project. For the realization of the project will be requested assistance from the Ministry of Tourism.
