Goals[edit]

Dagbani Wikimedians at a training session for Abstract Wikipedia project

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

The event was so lovely and participatory and our goals were met.
  • New editors were recruited
  • Existing editors gained new skills as a result of participating in the event.
  • Wikidata Lexemes in Dagbani were added/improved.

Outcome[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Number of events : 2 2 We organized two events, where participants were taken through how to create lexemes and translated Wikidata properties labels into Dagbani language in the first and second events respectively.
Number of participants : 25 25 The target number participated in the event
Number of new editors: 10 10 The target was met.
Number lexemes created: 500+ 1047 With the extraordinary commitment of the participants, we exceeded the set target by whooping 547 lexemes. A tremendous achievement in double folds plus. Here is a link to the number of lexemes created.
Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events): 10 25 The target was exceeded by 15 participants because of the interest and commitment that more community members showed in participating in the event.
Number of Wikidata properties labels translated: 100+ 347 The set target was triple plus achieved. It was fascinating to see participants passionately translating Wikidata propeties labels into Dagbani and that resulted to this remarkable achievement of exceeding the set target by 247. Here is a link to the number of Wikidata properties labels translated.

Learning[edit]

Dagbani Wikimedians at a training session for Abstract Wikipedia project

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
Having two separate events enabled us to have enough time for the two aspects(i.e Creating lexemes and translating Wikidata properties labels) of the training that we embarked on.
Internet connectivity was a bit stable.
It was also great having experienced and new editors together in the training sessions, the experienced ones carried along the new editors.
  • What did not work so well?
There were some few issues of internet connectivity during the later part of the event.
There were reports of participants IP address being blocked during the event which slowed the event activities but it was resolved quickly.
  • What would you do differently next time?
We would provide more internet connectivity backups.
We would also request for IP address block exemptions for participants before the event.
