Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: 200+ Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: 4777 The project participants were able to get 4777 images uploaded on Wikimedia Commons. Three targeted photowalks were conducted; participants in the photowalks were able to upload plenty of photos on commons. We expected a number of 200+ photos, and uploaders were able to upload 4000 photos on Commons.
Recruit new editors 2 new editos were recruited within the project The project helped to recruit new editors. Participant: In totally, 27 participants responded to our contest. The participants of the contest were recruited thought different channels of communication, among others physical gatherings, WhatsApp communications.
Photowalks Three photowalks were planned Three photowalks were organized in Bujumbura, Rumonge, Gitega and Muyinga where participants of the event shoot the photos related to the theme.
Closing ceremony Three winners of the contest Winners of the contest were determined by the jury, and advertised during the closing ceremony. Three participants were judged as winners of the contest and awarded price gifts as determined by the contest. This is a link to the winners’ page. The jury were made by three members that are Ndizeye thierry, Samy-Alfa, Manisaac. The jury proceeded by quality of photos to determine the winners of the contest.
Quality of the photos Some of the shooters uploaded photos with unexpected quality In future, we will organize trainings in photography for unexperienced participant who will like to join the photowalk. We will to guide participants through on how to upload images on commons. This will help to skill our participants to be more experienced in the shooting in order to have photos of quality.
Use of the photos Uploaded photos will be useful for Wikipedia projects Uploaded photos will be useful for Wikimedia projects such as enriching Wikipedia articles, lacking of photos. They will also be helpful for new articles creation on Wikipedia.


Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well? Our project participants have got to plan good teams to walk and shoot pictures together.
  • What did not work so well? Some photos were not well discribed by uploaders, but this gave a lesson to participants.
  • What would you do differently next time? Next time, we would plan a lot of meetings with our participants.
