Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes, but beyond meeting the goals; the project was super succesful at it provided an avenue for lot of LGBT+ Nigeria contents to be created.

Outcome[edit]

Number of Wikipedia training/edit-a-thons: 2 Number of Wikipedia training/edit-a-thons: 1 We had a Wikipedia training on Zoom and some participants showed but not that effective compare to a physical training.
Number of participants: 50+ We had over 40 persons who signed up to be part. Some participants pulled out due to harassments or controversies in regards to LGBT+ content in Nigeria
Number of articles created or improved: 300+ 66 new Wikipedia articles were created with over 300 articles was improved. This was met and surpassed.
Number of new editors: 80% Most of the participants are relatively new and hence recorded good new editors. This was met.


Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
  • The project/contest was the first of a kind LGBT contest in Nigeria which break the norm and thus increased the morale of the Nigeria LGBT+ community.
  • The partnership with Bisi Alimi Foundation proved vital as it provided enough publicity for the contest
  • Lot of Nigeria LGBT+ Wikipedia articles were newly created.
  • The funds arrived promptly and was effectively used.
  • The Trust and Safety team of the Wikimedia Foundation provided assurances to some of the harassed participants which boosted some contributions still.
  • What did not work so well?
  • Many participants were harassed/intimidated which caused some to pull out of the event like this and this or didn't bother to contribute atall.
  • The online Zoom training wasn't that effective compare to a physical one.
  • What would you do differently next time?
  • Will ensure participant safety is prioritized.
  • A follow-up training will be conducted where possible.

  • Shirts for organizers and winners: $86.48 ($10.81 X 8)
  • Jurys souvenirs: $100
  • Logistics : $100
  • Prizes- $400
