Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
  • Yes, we did and we are happy that the project was a success.
  • We hosted 2 Physical meeting and had new editors and existing editors. The Students were so eager to learn and explore the various Wikimedia products to promote open access to information for quality service delivery. The students asked relevant questions about reliability of Wikipedia sources, creating articles, and editing wiki pages. The facilitators were very helpful in providing them with the answers to their questions and guiding them through the editing process as they followed up with new editors between sessions and helped monitor the articles they worked on. It took longer than we expected for new editors to learn the basic skills to follow up, so we focused our efforts on helping them add reliable sources, and hyperlinks to existing articles as well as Creating and improving existing Wikidata Items.
  • With the help of the router, we had fast internet at the venue to bridge unstable internet connectivity.
  • What did not work so well?
  • Even though the guest speakers, and facilitators arrived the venue on time, we had to delay the commencement of the program due to the lateness of some of the students who were coming from far distance because we had students from different schools and this made the event to exceed the time set on our order of event.
  • Many student had issues of IP address being blocked and they could not follow up during the 1st day of training.

  • What would you do differently next time?
  • Make sure most of the participants try to create a Wikipedia account before the day of the training to avoid the issues of IP address being blocked, Thereby training them online on how to create a Wikipedia account.
