Edit-a-thon with 15 librarians and ICT professionals
From 26 to 27 April 2019, the local Glam-Wiki team organized a training workshop with librarians, archivists and computer scientists in the city of Bouaké (a city located in the center of Côte d'Ivoire). The workshop took place in several phases during the two days. On Friday the 26th, activities started with a presentation of Wikipedia, Wikimedia and the Glam-Wiki project. Followed by a series of questions and answers. Around noon, participants created Wikipedia accounts and made their first contributions. The Edit-a-thon continued on Saturday 27, and participants focused on improving articles related to Côte d'Ivoire.
Setting up a Wiki Club in Bouaké
At the end of the last day of training, certificates of participation were given to each participant. In the end, some participants wanted to continue the adventure and integrate the user group of Wikimedia CIV. This allowed us to create a Wiki Club (working group designed to create and improve articles on Côte d'Ivoire in particular and Africa in general) in Bouaké. I can add that this Club Wiki that was created is a big win for our group of users, because in addition to having had new members, we were able to expand our group of users outside the city of Abidjan.
- What worked well?
- We were able to have a partner in Bouaké who agreed to lend us his multimedia room to do the two days of training. This helped us a lot at the level of the participants who did not have a computer.
- The Club wiki we created allowed the Wikimedia CI group to develop outside of our main city (Abidjan).
- Thanks to the acquisition of the Wifi pockets that you gave us last year, we were able to give material to the new group of Bouaké to allow them to always contribute after our departure [2]
- We handed the Glam-wiki tee-shirt to the President of the wiki Club so that he could wear it at every meeting.
- What did not work so well?
- We were not expecting workshops outside of the city of Abidjan. as a result, our budget has risen a lot.
- We have not documented the food expenses of the two days of the workshop because we have not been able to get receipts.
- What would you do differently next time?
No, I don't think so right now.
