Goals

[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes, we were able to meet our goals. Which is registered new users and create awareness to the larger communities about Wikipedia and it's sister project. And also creating new articles.

We are very excited and happy about the project. This project helps in so many ways. Many people including our new editors where not aware that Wikipedia is 20 up till now. Many others still were not also aware when Wikipedia and who start the humanitarian work of Wikipedia.

This project gives us the advantage of sharing Wikipedia history and create an outstanding awarenesses.

People show alot of interest and the messages reach larger audience, looking at the shirt that cought people eyes. And the cake. It reaches to the level that people were following me home to asked and beg for the shirt. I have to make another arrangements for the shirts for our new users.

This is very exciting.

Outcome

[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
10 12 We were able to register 12 new editors at the event
50 50 we were able to create 50 articles and translate some articles also. But I also have problems with tracing and tracking participants contributions. This i think is due to some special characters that I used in the hastag, the hastag is #Wiki@20. But also I was fortunate to meet User Chris Schilling (WMF) at recent concluded Wikimania and I explained to him about my conditions. And he assure me that atimes you might face some challenges tracking the participants contributions if u include special characters at the hastag. He told me that it's normal I shouldn't worry and he asked me to email him which I did with the hastag and the project page. So to look if there's anything he can do to help. So as I write this report I'm waiting for his replies.

All thanks to user Chris Schilling for replying me back and giving his utmost support. He help me greatly by tracing some of the participants contributions. Though not all but it helps. He traced the work with #Wiki. So we will be using it for the contributions traced.

Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

Well, Almost everything went well with this project, we were able to celebrate, create awareness and also create new articles.

. People find it so exciting that, they are celebrating Wikipedia @20. We cut cake, a decorated cake of Wikipedia.

. There is alot of messages, good wishes, birthday messages from our Facebook page and WhatsApp, which I'm able to screen shot some and share with you. You can find it at the pictures I share below.

. We make a customized Wikipedia shirt and wore it that day, which also help the program to be more popular and great. To the extend that people that did not event attend the event where asking and begging me for the shirt.

. We were able to include large number of University students to the event.

.we were able to have a decorated Wikipedia birthday cake, with Wikipedia logo and some beautiful designs, which almost everybody admire. That's great.

. I also learnt that, not to use special characters while using Hastag this might course difficulties while tracing the work. I'm excited to know about this development. And I'm happy to learnt that also.

  • What did not work so well?

.Well, some things did not go according to plan. We had to do 2 programs at that particular day which initially was not the plan. We have problem with rain during Hausa Wikipedia Edit-a-thon.

. So we have to shift one of the event to that of the birthday celebration day. Because there was constant rain that time and we are running out of time.

. I also experience some difficulties tracking participants contributions of the project. This is because the hastag I used has a special character in it. The hastag is #Wiki@20. Which I did not know that the tool will not be able to trace the contributions because of the special character that exist in the hastag. Till i meet user Chris Schilling (WMF) at the recent concluded Wikimania and I asked him about that and he explained to me that it's possible because of the special characters. Nevertheless he also asked me to email him the project, the tool I used and the project link, so as to see if he can help. which I did. So as I'm writing this report I'm waiting for his response to know the way forward.

. All thanks to user Chris Schilling (WMF) For his replied as I'm submitting this project now, he did reply me and we have a way now to traced the participants contributions though not all but altleast that help. We are now tracing the work with #Wiki.

  • What would you do differently next time?

. I plan to engage more student in the upcoming activities and events.

. I plan to engaged more of our community online. And lot more.
