Goals[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

The primary goal for this project to build wider awareness about Wikimedia Movement and it works. It also aimed to motivate people to contribute more in Wikimedia Movement. This printed collection of 'Wikibarta' consists of articles, news and interviews documents the history of wikimedia movements, sharing experiences of notable wikimedians and the brief introductions to wikimedia projects.

After we started distributing the copies, we are seeing increased interest about Wikimedia Projects from the newcoming contributors as well as the people outside from Wikimedia Movement who are curious to know about the movement.

Outcome[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

As this project was aimed to build wider awareness, it is difficult to measure the outcome with the quantitative measurements.

We are observing the number of queries has increased about Wikimedia projects in our social media channels and meetups. We have also observed that the depth of the conversions enriched as community members get better awareness of the past events.

We have started donating copies to the libraries of various educational institutions. Our campus liaisons are also reporting of getting positive quires from the students about Wikipedia overall.

Learning[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
The overall quality of the publication was satisfactory. We had some skilled editors in the team. We also found a talented designer/page setter who delivered quality work. Though the initial plan was to publish the articles that were already published in the online version of the magazine. But later the editorial team found some content gap to fill in. So they included some new articles so that someone from outside of our movement can get a clear picture of our movement.
  • What did not work so well?
Time management is our big disappointment. Several of the team members of our editorial team suffered serious health issues including repeated infection of COVID-19 and that slowed down the process significantly. Another big challenge that was beyond our control was the printing cost due to economic inflation. Our plan was to print this magazine in larger quantity. But due to the cost we had to cut down to that number.
  • What would you do differently next time?
Our volunteer editorial team now have better understanding of the challenges of workflow for the publishing printed material. So, we will be able to handle these challenges better next time. Another big lesson we learned was about time management. We are hopeful that we will have a more robust contingency plan for future projects for printed materials.
