Project Overview

The #WikiHumanRights campaign is part of the Wikimedia Foundation campaigns to provide all Wikipedia readers around the world access to impartial, fact-based and up-to-date information on the right to a healthy environment. The right to a healthy environment is a legal right recognized by the United Nations, but it is also a way to link human rights to the triple planet crisis we are facing: climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss.

Objectives of the competition

In addition to these efforts, a number of volunteers from Morocco, Algeria, Egypt and the Levant worked to coordinate together to organize a unified competition in the Arabic language, open to everyone from different countries and regions. The competition was organized with financial support from the Wikimedia Foundation.
  • As for the photo competition, it was concerned with developing and improving Arabic content in the projects of the Wikimedia Foundation from Arabic Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, as it modified images in Arabic and added Arabic content to images and multimedia on Wikimedia Commons, in addition to adding human rights-related images to articles dedicated to it in Wikipedia. Activities

The work on preparing the joint Arab competition - Climate Change Wiki included several activities that the organizing team worked on during the project's development period, which lasted about four months. These activities can be divided into three phases: pre-contest, contest, and post-contest. Several activities were linked to more than one stage, such as the weekly meetings of the organizing team, which lasted from the initial preparation stage for writing this report, and the meetings of the judging team that started during the start of the competition, and continued until after to select the winners. The duration of the editing and photography competitions extended between 7 and 31 May 2022, while the work of the organizing team started in March and ended in July.

Editorial Contest

67 Wikipedians participated in the editorial competition and created approximately 517 articles. The participants were divided into two categories according to their experience: Category 1 (participants with 501 edits or more), and Category 2 (participants with less than 500 edits before the start of the competition). It involved 16 people, 7 of whom wrote reports, and collectively created 423 articles. The three winners are:

توصل فريق التنظيم ب 1500 دولار كمنحة من مؤسسة ويكيميديا، وقام بصرفها على الشكل التالي:
