Goals

[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

We are happy about how the project went. We are particularly happy about being able to:

  • Organise our project during the vacation of universities. Though students were out of campus we were successful in getting students to be present at in person and virtual trainings.
  • Successfully organise much needed in-person trainings for new and existing editors. This greatly increased the quality of articles submitted in this project in comparison to previous projects.
  • Add audios to articles we worked on in previous projects, in addition to the articles we worked on in this project.

Outcome

[edit]

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Number of participants: 25 23 During our trainings we noticed new interested editors could not create accounts because they received messages of their IP addresses being blocked. This was a hindrance to they participating in the contest as we needed usernames to keep track of the number of edits and articles they worked on in awarding prizes.
4 in-person training workshop and 1 online workshop 5 2 in-person workshops in Accra were organized and 2 in-person workshops in Kumasi in Twi Wikipedia and Wikicommons. We were also able to organise one online workshop as planned.
Number of articles created or improved: 270 280 280 articles were translated from English Wikipedia language to Twi language on Twi Wikipedia. Audio pronunciation of the titles were also added to the articles.
Number of words to be recorded and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: 270 280 280 words were recorded and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.

Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

Because we had in person trainings, participants had the opportunity to have their challenges, questions and concerns in regards to editing on Wikipedia addressed which allowed them to create really good articles.

  • What did not work so well?

The challenge of creating accounts because of blocked IP address. Also we wanted to add the audio pronunciation of the words we worked on in previous projects to their existing English articles but this was not possible because of the same IP address issue. We could have done much more work.

  • What would you do differently next time?

We intend to seek support or partnership with Kumasi Hive to enable participants and the community to use their computers for at least an hour a day or on weekends.

Anything else

[edit]

Anything else you want to share about your project?

We noticed participants are improving when it comes to the quality of the articles they create or translate. With the help of a Twi language professional, we have been able to correct as many errors as possible created by participants ensuring we set standards high for future content created on Twi Wikipedia.
