Learning
[edit]Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- We had very strategic partners with the National Broadcast Academy in Nigeria
- Since the focused area of the project matches the objective of the partner, the participants were encouraged to learn about the outcome of the project.
- We promised the some of the highest contributors with gifts, this act spurred a lot of them to contribute articles in order to win the gifts
- The knowledge also serve as a means of challenging the participants to contribute because some of them could see known organization without a Wiki profile.
- What did not work so well?
- The examination period of the academy was every closed to the event , so a lot of the participants were distracted by their studies.
- The event was postponed several times because many times the event clashed with the academic calendar.
- Many of the participants complaint that can’t use their internet for the purpose of editing Wikipedia.
- Many of the proposed articles do not have enough secondary sources to be cited for their article creation.
- The dashboard did not captured all the articles created by the participants.
- What would you do differently next time?
- I will ensure that exams period are far away from the training session.
- Plan for an event that wont clash with the academic calendar of the institution.
- Make provision for internet subsidies for students that can afford data for Wikipedia editing.
- Encourage Nigerian press to focus on material facts on Nigeria radio station on their platforms.
