Goals

[edit]

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

We did meet our goals and are happy with the project outcomes. The local user group is much stronger and has more connections in our region and across the state. We have already been involved in a few more edit-a-thon events and have new people taking on leadership roles within the local user group.

Outcome

[edit]

Please report on your original project targets.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Number of events: 3 yes Meetings held in January, February, and March
Number of participants: 25-50 yes 50 people attended the Wikipedia Day event in January
Number of new editors: 10 yes After this event, we were contacted about supporting an edit-a-thon in Winston Salem which had far more than 10 new editors.
A core group of local Wikimedians is identified and monthly meetings are scheduled yes We now have three people taking leadership roles within the local user group and have had monthly meetings since this first event in January.

Learning

[edit]

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well? The Wikipedia Day event had a nice bump in attendance, in part because it overlapped with a happy hour event at the same venue.
  • What did not work so well? The monthly meetings have been slow to get going. There were only three of us at the February meeting, and six in March.
  • What would you do differently next time? We should consider sponsoring the happy hour event at The Frontier next January and using that to shine a spotlight on Wikipedia Day.
