Rationale

We held a hackathon in April in Lyons[1] that was not budgeted for in our initial grant request. We also sent two people to a Google serve event and had some work done there as well. The good part is that it greatly helped the development and some early bug fixing, and allowed us to bring on board volunteers that would otherwise not have come to Montreal. The bad part: unplanned costs that ate up most of our Wikimania budget.

Lyons had 12 volunteers joining, and 2 at Google Serve (+8 Googlers: total 10 attendees). Montreal had 7 people budgeted for, but only 5 attended in the end. Bottom line: instead of spending CHF 10,000 on 7 attendees (1 event; 1'420 p.p) we look to be spending 23,000 for 29 (total over 3 events; CHF 790.- p.p). At the end of the day, it was our call to go over budget: we've already decided to absorbe a larger part of the project management costs to reduce the overall budget, and only ask for half of the extra hackathon spending (CHF 4,600 out of CHF 9,200.-).

Request approved

This request for CHF 4'600 to cover the hackathon in Lyon is approved. The Hackathon should be reported on as part of your Final Report. If there is any additional information you need to add, please do so. The new grant end date is September 30, 2018 (to allow enough time to sign the amendment). The grants admin will reach out to you to request your signature for the amendment.
