Project idea[edit]

What is the problem you're trying to solve?[edit]

What problem are you trying to solve by doing this project? This problem should be small enough that you expect it to be completely or mostly resolved by the end of this project. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

It is very easy to take photographs at ground level, but it is very difficult to photograph in a global way villages, historical monuments, quarries or generally all kinds of sites. Still, very interesting things can be shown when we can take a little height.

What is your solution to this problem?[edit]

For the problem you identified in the previous section, briefly describe your how you would like to address this problem. We recognize that there are many ways to solve a problem. We’d like to understand why you chose this particular solution, and why you think it is worth pursuing. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

One solution we have prepared in recent months is to use a drone to systematically produce aerial views of several hundred points or places of interest. The photographs must then be uploaded on Wikimedia Commons with the models allowing an efficient internationalization, categorized and connected to Wikidata.

In recent months, a lot of photography work has been done in the field in order to illustrate these topics, to name them, then to complete Wikidata, to allow reusability of the files but also datad by the contributors of the different versions ok Wikipedia. This ant work is expected to continue in the first half of 2019.

Project goals[edit]

What are your goals for this project? Your goals should describe the top two or three benefits that will come out of your project. These should be benefits to the Wikimedia projects or Wikimedia communities. They should not be benefits to you individually. Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

Our goals are :

  • Systematically propose aerial views of slag heaps, mining sites, villages, churches, chapels, cemeteries, parks, wind farms ... It is a question of starting again the same work, but seen from above this time.
  • In parallel, the files will be categorized in an efficient way, and each category will have an infobox containing the data entered on Wikidata concerning this element. This infobox works in a lot of languages. In turn, we hope that all contributors will create articles in their languages with files and datas from Wikidata.

Project impact[edit]

How will you know if you have met your goals?[edit]

For each of your goals, we’d like you to answer the following questions:

  1. During your project, what will you do to achieve this goal? (These are your outputs.)
  2. Once your project is over, how will it continue to positively impact the Wikimedia community or projects? (These are your outcomes.)

For each of your answers, think about how you will capture this information. Will you capture it with a survey? With a story? Will you measure it with a number? Remember, if you plan to measure a number, you will need to set a numeric target in your proposal (i.e. 45 people, 10 articles, 100 scanned documents). Remember to review the tutorial for tips on how to answer this question.

For the first phase of this project, it is planned to produce and upload 15,000 files under CC-by-sa 3.0. Each of these files must have in its description the template Depicted place related to a Wikidata element, and be categorized. The category must have the vertical table Wikidata Infobox. The simple counting of the number of files thus makes it possible to define whether the objective has been reached or not.

The real success will be to note the reuse in the different linguistic versions of Wikimedia Commons photographs and Wikidata datas, these photographs themselves being datas present on the database, in the months and years to come. On the other hand, it would be interesting to see similar initiatives develop, it's a bit of a goal.

Do you have any goals around participation or content?[edit]

Are any of your goals related to increasing participation within the Wikimedia movement, or increasing/improving the content on Wikimedia projects? If so, we ask that you look through these three metrics, and include any that are relevant to your project. Please set a numeric target against the metrics, if applicable.

  1. Create or develop (if already exist) around 600 Wikidata items. Note : this project has no goals about FR Wiki, this doesn't impeach to create articles, but it will not be a part of this project.

Project plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. What will you and other organizers spend your time doing? What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

Continue a proven recipe since 2011 : take out photos when the weather is beautiful, and put them online when it rains. Work together and list the sites to illustrate, create the Wikidata element if necessary before it can be illustrated. Then continue the project with additional phases and move further and further.

Budget[edit]

How you will use the funds you are requesting? List bullet points for each expense. (You can create a table later if needed.) Don’t forget to include a total amount, and update this amount in the Probox at the top of your page too!

Total : 11 835 €.

Phases 2 and 3 are already planned, they idea is to describe a spiral from our town. At the beginning, place will be very near, and became more and more far. It was done this year for photos. The external hard drive become necassary. I am not very far from the limit in my computer (less than 50 GO) and the three others use their phone to go on the Internet.

Community engagement[edit]

How will you let others in your community know about your project? Why are you targeting a specific audience? How will you engage the community you’re aiming to serve at various points during your project? Community input and participation helps make projects successful.

The key to the success of this project is the reuse of content in many languages, and just see that my city has articles in thirty languages to see the potential of this project. There are fifty-two articles about the nearest big city.

One of the wishes is to develop on the same principle as the supermodule Cycling race infoboxes for localities and monuments, it was a great success that made it possible to work together contributors despite their language differences thanks to well-planned tools.

It is therefore envisaged to produce a list of elements illustrated on Wikidata, that contributors can follow and translate. A page on a social network would be too time consuming, contact with local contributors is preferable. Note this project is already very advanced on certain points which we did not consider necessary to develop here.

Get involved[edit]

Participants[edit]

Please use this section to tell us more about who is working on this project. For each member of the team, please describe any project-related skills, experience, or other background you have that might help contribute to making this idea a success.

  • Jérémy, Wikimedian since ten years, 83000 files uploaded on Commons, thousands to upload in the future. Know for work about Nord-Pas-de-Calais mining basin and cycling.
  • For this project, work will be done with Morgan, Daniel and Guillaume according their timetable. They are not specifically fan of data processing, but they love to be on the terrain. They were present and participant this year during sessions of illustrations. They were a major asset when you had to travel through a cemetery to find the graves of the former mayors of the communes. More seriously, working in a group is really great. Two of them are already able to contribute on Wikidata. We take in consideration that new infoboxes are able to take all their datas on Wikidata, so it became more important to contribute on Wikidata where it is more easy for a newcomer.
