Gille De Vlieg[edit]

In 1958, de Vlieg was trained as a nurse at Greys Hospital Pietermaritzburg. It was not until 1982 that she joined the Johannesburg Black Sash as a volunteer and was introduced to apartheid politics at this time. She worked with rural communities threatened with removal from their land and became interested in taking photographs. She joined Afrapix, (a photographic collective) and quickly realised photography could be used as a means of protest. The next several years she spent documenting various townships and rural areas mostly in the former Transvaal. In June 1986, de Vlieg was arrested after a raid on her house, initially under Section 50 of the Internal Security Act, and taken to John Vorster Square and then to the Hillbrow police station for thirty-seven days.

Dumisani Ndubane[edit]

Dumi started editing Wikipedia (Wikiversity to be precise) in 2008, and joined the Local chapter in 2012. Thus far he enjoys volunteering in running local chapter projects such as this one. He has particular interest on local language wikis and editing history pages on the english wikipedia, and this project alows him to do both.

He designs Electrical reticulation systems during working hours in his professional capacity. He runs a Linux box and tried to learn a bit of Computer programming, then settled on learning Computer Aided Design (CAD) instead.
