Grants:Regions/Changes to funding regions in 2023-24

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Changes to the funding regions in 2023-2024 fiscal year

On July 1, 2023, the Community Resources will shift from its current seven funding regions to align with the eight Wikimedia regions. There are some upcoming changes to support this shift. Here are the most significant changes:

  • We will have 8 funding regions instead of 7. The Middle East and Africa region (MEA) will be changed to the Middle East & North Africa region (MENA) and the Sub-Saharan Africa region (SSA). However, the regions will still be supported by the same Program Officer and Regional Funds Committee.
  • The United States and Canada region (USCA) will be renamed to the North America funding region (NA) with the same Program Officer and Regional Funds Committee supporting. Mexico will continue to be supported in the Latin America & Caribbean region.
  • Some countries and territories will be added to corresponding regions, e.g. Gibraltar, Greenland, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, New Caledonia, French Polynesia.
  • Some funding regions will be slightly renamed based on the accepted naming convention, i.e. and will be replaced with ampersand, the will be omitted.
