Wikidata

[edit]

I am an active Wikimedian, working mostly with Wikipedia Albania and Wikidata. I am currently working on a project about monuments in Albania with my friend Liridon, which consist on improving Albanian data on Wikidata. I want to show how to contribute on Wikidata by showing my personal experience on this project which is ongoing or other people projects. And also how to use queries to visualize data that people might need. I have some nice examples that Tobias suggested me. I thought to do it as a talk instead of an workshop since i saw that there were not applications about Wikidata last year, and since its new compare to Wikipedia, maybe a talk and visualization of data can inspire more people to contribute.

  • Link of presentation onlineː Wikidata query and visualization also there is a possibly that my talk to be merged with another workshop and to have a 2h workshop. The discussion can be found here.

Diversity

[edit]

Also, i will co-host a talk with a friend of mine about diversity. In this talk im planing to talk about my project WikiprojectːWomen (Sqː Wikiprojektiː Gratë) how to get more women in Free Software/Open Knowledge, and im covering the Open Knowledge part where i will show my experience with women in Wikipedia mostly as part of our community in Albania. Mentioning issues likeː How important is a code of conduct, Is the environment friendly enough? Why diversity is important on Wikimedia projects? Giving good examples on how to fix the gap like Women in Red, or WikiLovesWomen.

Goal and expected impact

[edit]

CCC event will be full of hackers, developers and people who know a lot about programming and data visualization. Hopefully this talk will be a small gate to show them how they can contribute or join a Wikiproject on Wikidata. Also this is a 4 day event. I will try to get in touch with as many people as possible to talk and share about Wikipedia, Wikidata or other Wikimedia project.

Budget breakdown

[edit]
  • Travel (round trip airfare from Tirana to Hamburg): USD 330
  • Accommodation: USD 55 per night x 5 nights. Plus 63 USD service fee of the apartment = 338 USD
  • Participation Feeː 110 USD
  • Meals: 2̈ meals/day(lunch, dinner) x 3 days = 72 USD

Note: 12 USD per meal. Also the speakers that applied directly to ccc CFP had no fee for entrance, but i lost that deadline, I applied as part of FSFE assembly and as a speaker of Assembly you need a ticket to enter. Also i booked an apartment which i will share it with a friend. The amount above is my half.

Endorsements

[edit]
  • Support Support I think presenting Wikidata at the event is a great idea. It will communicate our goals to a large and like-minded community. I am certain that we will yield some people that will start to edit Wikidata or will be interested in building tools. I would also suggest to advertise the Vienna Hackathon during the talk because it might interest some people to work on Wikidata's infrastructure. I am looking forward to the report! ---Tobias1984 (talk) 16:14, 11 November 2016 (UTC)
  • Support Support Spreading the word about Wikidata to like-minded communities is important and Greta is capable of animating people to join our Wikimedian community - something which she has proved in the Albanian community and in CEE. --Nikola (talk) 18:32, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
  • Support Support She has organized several projects in Wikipedia, and she is one of few in Albanian community who has good knowledge about Wikidata. I believe that her presentation at the CCC conference will be a valuable contribution to this event, and Wikimedia community. Liridon (talk) 19:53, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
  • Support Support I pledged to preach Wikidata. When I don't do it myself, I give all my support to people who have the opportunity. Now, it's Greta's turn. Greta, you can always use examples from Petscan queries I've added (and I hope I'll add more) on d:Wikidata:WikiProject Albania/Maintenance Queries. Good luck!
